that is so good to hear that all is well with your little one too!! It is so

strange to hear how many of our kids have the same kind of thing ( from this

support group anyways) and when I had shown different 'medical people' some of

them would say that they never saw that before but it didn't look like a

concern.... it must be pretty common to have some sort of a mark on the lower

spine when you have a clubfoot.... I was pretty frustrated when the

neonatoligist didn't even bring it to our attention... we know she was checked

out because of the concern during pregnancy so I tried not to totally freak out

when I found it but it was just one more thing to worry about but she has come

so far that I am not 'to' concerned anymore... she is holding herself up when

proped against the couch for several minutes at a time... she doesn't pull up

there yet but she will stay there and tries to move around while doing that...

she is still unsteady but it is getting better each and every day...

Thanks for your input!!

We noticed Elijah's " Y " right away, or rather his Dr did. It looked

pretty normal to me but then I didnt know anything about SB. All

our other children walked between 11 and 13 months. Elijah was just

a little late at 14 months.

One thing I noticed about Elijah was that he stood a little early at

7 months and just took his time. Our other babies (3 of them) would

take steps and risk falling. So their first steps were taken one or

two at a time. Elijah was more cautious, walked later but his first

steps were about 7-8 and he would go longer distances quicker than

the others did. Does that make sense?

I think Elijah being a little later than the rest was a confidence

thing rather than having to do with his leg strength b/c before he

could walk, he was (and still is) climbing over, under and through

EVERYTHING.

Does Avery pull up on things and stand for extended periods?

It is interesting, isn't it?!

I have a good friend whose son was diagnosed with sbo recently. He was over a

year, though, before it was diagnosed! His previous pediatrician just shrugged

his sacral dimple off as no big deal (I saw it and thought it was because it

was deeper than Rose's), but it turned out that it was sbo after they went to a

new family doctor. Most sacral dimples, hairy patches, y's don't signify

anything. They are just there. My friend's son will be two in September, and

he's been walking for awhile.

had a little hairy patch at the base of his spine when he was

born. I didn't give it a second thought until Dr Ponseti treated him at 10

weeks. By this time it had gone, but he asked if had had one and when

we said 'yes', he felt his spine and said it was OK. Maybe it's a potential

warning of a problem, but not always a sign that it is there? I'd assume

that it's the spina bifida occulta that he was checking for, but he didn't

say. I think I read somewhere a while ago that apart from Clubfoot, Dr

Ponseti's other research was on spinal defects, and spina bifida, but I'm

not sure about that.

's butt crack (for want of a better term, I have no idea what we'd call

it in South Africa!) looks pretty normal to me...

Hi,

My son has that hairy patch as well. I had no idea that it was common in CF

babies. We are seeing Dr. Ponseti for the first time 8/26 and I will definetely

have him take a look. Any tips on other things that I should ask him?

THanks
