Guest guest
Hi, I used a hack saw to remove my daughter's casts. I know it sounds unsafe but a hack saw isn't electric so you can apply as light a pressure as you're comfortable with. I've never put so much as a scratch on her skin and it took only a few minutes to remove both casts. I used a blade for cutting metal, it has very short, small teeth. You will have plenty of room between the skin and saw blade since there is a good deal of cotton under the casts. A good way of gauging how close you're getting to the cotton is to poke the end of the blade (which is rounded and dull) into the cut to see if it hits a hard or soft surface. Dan how to get casts off? Please help me! We had a terrible time in getting the casts off our son. Last week was his first cast and we had to take it off early because it was too tight. Any suggestions on the best way to get it off? Please help...

Here is what we did: Get a couple of towels wet with water and lemon juice. Wrap them around the casts and put a bread bag over them for about an hour then put them in the bath tub and let soak while you wash baby up then peal it off. It works pretty well. Guest guest
When we had to remove Kelsey's, we would soak them in vinegar and water and then my husband used a pair of tin snips to cut through the plaster. This was the only way we could get them off but it worked well and was much faster than trying to peel them off. Jenni --- jones_reid wrote: > Please help me! Guest guest
We had to get the casts off once and I told them I wouldn't do it again. It was a nightmare. I just felt it shouldn't be the parents job to get the casts off and really it only took a few minutes in the plaster room with the saw. It was a bit noisy but did the job so I made sure they did it the next time. Next thing you know they will be making you put the casts on......... Rach, Steve & Connor -- how to get casts off? Guest guest
Ok...here's how I did it...and it worked best for me this way...I'm sure others have other ideas...i got them really wet...immersed them. The nurse at the hospital told me to leave him sitting in water...but after trying that several times...I was frustrated and he was upset. So..we got him wet..real wet and took him out and put wet towels around them and sat him in his bouncy seat...he usually napped. Then about an hour or more later I found the tab and started unwrapping. It's really messy and wet. But soaking I figured out meant giving the water time to soak through the plaster...not literally sitting in water soaking. Make sense? After that...I became an expert..I kept my bandage scissors nearb y for trimming tho...and whew..what a mess..just plan for it. --- jones_reid wrote: > Please help me! Guest guest
I see you have received some really good advise from some of the parents on this site in regards to cast removal. Our little one, (casted by dr. Pirani), had soft casts so I never had to take advise on removal of hard casts. I must say that sawing off the cast sounds like a much better alternative than soaking to me...hmm, hours of soaking verses sawing off?? If anyone has used a small hack saw, I think they would agree...if you use a really fine blade, you would be very very accurate. Us crazy Canadians 'eh' Dan hehehe, works for me hehe. Hugs from & Grace Unilateral rcf FAB 12-14 hrs *Ponseti Method* Hehehehehehe, , They are going to think us folk from Canada are self sufficent ((god forbid)) hehe. I too sometimes resort to using tools, usually if I have asked something to be fixed and a couple of days go by, I resort to tool use, it's so funny how my dh reacts hehe, he is suddenly veeery interested what I am doing. Hope you are all doing well!! & Grace RUCF Treated with P/M! FAB 12 hrs > Hi, > > I used a hack saw to remove my daughter's casts.
