Guest guest
Rich- Flagyl is an antibiotic- almost anyone can take it. It doesn't affect weight loss.. Big warning: you cannot drink while on Flagyl because it makes you severely nauseous if combined with alcohol, and it does taste nasty, so swallow it FAST with as much water as you can. No contraindications unless you have a flagyl allergy or pregnancy 1st trimester. Be careful taking flagyl if you are on cimetadine (tagamet) because it decreases the body's breakdown of flagyl; flagyl also increases the action of coumadin(warfarin- a blood thinner), so if you are on coumadin, you need to be monitored by your doctor to adjust your dose. The most common side effects are dizziness, headache, anorexia, nausea, & stomach pain, but of those, I've only experienced the nausea, & that was because of the taste. The generic name is metronidazole, and you probably were given 2-4 doses of this stuff IV right after your switch because its often used after intestinal surgery to reduce the chances of infections occurring. The drug info came from my 2001 Drug Guide for Nurses.. if you have any other questions, ASK Hope this helped!
