Guest guest
I really need and referals for Dr.'s in Salt lake City or surrounding areas that use Ponseti's method. If anyone could help that would be great! Thanks, Stacie

Guest guest
There are no Ponseti Doctors in Utah on Dr. Ponseti's list. There are some in surrounding states but I didn't know which ones were closest to you. Here is the link to Dr. Ponseti's list: http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians.html Good luck with your search. I have heard of him, but I don't have any direct info or experience. I heard of him several years ago, and that he uses the Ponseti method, but I don't know why he's not on the qualified doctors list. Here's info from the POSNA locator: Santora Shriners Hospital Intermoutain Fairfax Rd at Virginia Street Salt Lake City, UT. 84103-4399 Here's the aritlce I remembered about him: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,405028574,00.html And there is also a letter, written by him, posted at our site in the Files section, about his conversion to and use of the method. If the link doesn't work, go to Files and scroll way down for " Santora letter " : http://f5.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/MKgCQytFM9T1lGQJGQHlYxdxXn0gVsr3AeER4yyt5 jhNoVafmyX_vny5yTBUsDYbw4VtBXRgBcYUFnzwJugAnl3zmeKC_WSi6eZKgQ/Santora% 20Letter.jpg He might be a good resource for you for followup, since your child's feet are corrected, and he seems to appreciate the method. Hope this helps. Perhaps someone else can give you more info.

Guest guest
Stacie, Obviously I am a little slow.... Been away from the computer for a day or two and just saw both of your posts this morning. There aren't too many Utahites on this site, we are actually southern Idaho. There is another gal who recently moved to Ogden and was trying to find a doctor. She e-mailed Dr. Santora, but I don't know what result she received. (Faith, if your are out there, what did you find out?) We don't go to Utah for treatment, but to Boise. It is sixes for us direction wise and we were referred Boise way and like the doc. I don't know anything about Dr. Santora that you haven't been told already, so I can't help there. I can suggest you call both Shriners and Primary Children's Hospital, apparently they have been using Ponseti for a few years, they would have a doctor's name. Since your son has already been treated with the method, you know the questions to ask and what to look for; you could probably decide whether they are good or not pretty quick (that sentence is a grammatical nightmare, sorry). If you wouldn't mind, let me know what you find out. We will still go to Boise since we like the doc and started there, but I would like to know more about the Utah docs also. Sorry, I can't offer more help. If you don't find a SLC doc, our doc. in Boise is good (Dr. Buzz Showalter). It's a bit of a drive though. Mom to Tenny 7/15/04 rt. cf. FAB 16/7 Please help me find a doctor in Utah... I really need and referals for Dr.'s in Salt lake City or surrounding areas that use Ponseti's method. If anyone could help that would be great! Guest guest
You could visit the Salt Lake Shriner's, there's a Doctor there who claims to practice the Ponseti method. however, when I spoke to ponseti about him he told me that he had indeed visited a clinic given by him but in 2001 he published an article in the desseret news which contained , he said, some descrepancies with the method. he then wrote him a letter stating his concerns, but got no reply. The drs name is stephen santora. we met him last week. he seemed very nice, however, he went out of his way to tell us how close...and " in contact " he is with dr ponseti, when it is not true. there is as far as I can tell an excelent dr in boise, id. a dr buzz showalter. we saw him over a month ago briefly. he seems to follow the method pretty closely, although he encouraged us to let our son have more time out of his brace, which i believe has caused a bit of a relapse. of the two, i would recommend going to boise. besides, he's on ponseti's approved list, not that that means what it should... jordybirdmum wrote: I really need and referals for Dr.'s in Salt lake City or surrounding areas that use Ponseti's method.
