Guest guest
Hi HeidiC, It sounds like your friend had the RNY. The main differnce between the two is that the DS leaves the stomach functioning as it did before surgery. The RNY destroys the stomach's natural function and creates a new " pouch " which holds the food. You need to research the features, results, quality of life of both of the surgeries and decide which one you can be compliant with for the rest of your life. For info on the DS, here's some websites: http://www.mywls.com/body_duodenal_switch/body_duodenal_switch.html http://www.duodenalswitch.com For the history of Weight Loss Surgery: http://www.surgery.usc.edu/divisions/cr/obesity.html Very intersting reading explaining the evolution of weight loss surgery and how the DS is the latest in the evolution. For information on the RNY: http://www.asbs.org/html/story/ch_4.html Good luck to you.. heidi http://www.mywls.com
