Guest guest
Hello to all, My name is lie Moloney and I live in New York. I am 32 years old and 318 lbs.(currently on Weight Watchers,AGAIN!). My husband and I are trying to conceive our 2nd child right now, but I am definitely considering surgery after the baby would be born.I just wanted to ask if any women on this list were ever in my situation. How long did you wait until after your baby was born OR if anybody has become pregnant after weight loss surgery?I would be having a c- section again also. We have a 4 year old son,but we do want to have other children. So , I am kinda worried about the fertility aspect of the surgery. I also have GHI as my health insurance and Blue Cross Blue Shield for hospitalization. Will they BOTH cover the surgery? I congratulate all of you on making the tough decision to have the surgery done. I know that it was probably a very hard, decision to make. It is for me at least. I am also very hesitant to tell my family about this choice. They are very oppinionated about EVERYTHING I do! Including my husband and me conceiving again( " YOU are TO HEAVY!! " }. My husband is very supportive of me having the surgery. I'm sorry about this long post, but I have so many questions and feelings about this. Anybody would like to respond, your feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank You. Sincerely, lie

Guest guest
lie- I was switched on July 6, 2001. My daughter was born in March of 2000. I, too, had a c-section. I found this to be good timing for me but I know of other women who had surgery much earlier after their babies were born. I am still breastfeeding my daughter after surgery which I discussed with my surgeon extensively and he found no problems with it at her age since she does not rely on it for a majority of her nutrition. They did say if the baby was exclusively breastfeeding you would probably want to wait until they started on solid foods. I plan to get pregnant in a year and a half to two years from now. This is the recommended waiting period by my surgeon. There is a group of women who are pregnant/trying etc. after WLS called ossg- pregnant and you may find more info there. I know some women get pregnant sooner but the surgeon told me they want your weight to stabilize before you become pregnant so you are not losing while pregnant. Don't worry about the fetility issues. Alot of women have this surgery in order to lose weight so they can become pregnant. I know of several women who have had successful pregnancies after WLS. It is great that you have a supportive husband! Don't feel like you have to tell everyone about the surgery. I still have not told my inlaws. Instead I said that I had my appendix out... which is 100% true, I just had a couple of additional things done as well. Hee hee. Anyhow, good luck!
