Guest guest
Elijah, now almost 17 months, had trouble sleeping in the beginning. Im sure his cast bothered him some but I also think it was just his nature to not sleep. He was the worst sleeper out of four. He woke up every two hours to be fed and cuddled at night while the rest would go 4 hours or more. And at night, he wouldnt just 'go' to sleep.. he screamed bloody murder for hours on end despite any attempt on my part to comfort him. Hang in there, Elijah didnt have his first full night of sleep until he was 7 months old. I just thank God that I had him last b/c otherwise, my other 3 children wouldve never been more than a glimmer in my eye. lol!! Lori Mom to 13, Nova 9, Ethan 2 and Elijah 16 mo atypical RCF DBB nights only > anyone have this problem?? Or is it just a " newborn baby " thing? Guest guest
Kelsey slept better during this initial casting phase when I would place a small pillow or blanket under her casted leg to help remove some of the pressure. I did not prop it up a lot but just enough to remove some of the weight of the cast pulling down on her leg. It would also help Kelsey to hold her in a cross-cradle type hold with our arm in between her legs, propping up the casted leg. Hope this helps. Guest guest
My daughter got her 1st cast on at 4 days old. We always propped her legs up. SOmetimes just the cast leg, sometimes both. Kinda depended on what was comfortable for her at that time. Try that and see waht happens. jones_reid wrote:anyone have this problem?? Or is it just a " newborn baby " thing? Guest guest
The first few months with Gabe, we slept onthe couch. I kept Gabe in my lap on the boppy and kept one of my arms under his casted legs ( at least till he fell asleep). I just had a bid pillow pile near the arm of the chair to slump against, but if you're a really heavy sleeper, I definitely wouldn't recommend this. After that, we co-slept... He slept on his side one cast on the other...He seemed to prefer this to anything else and it took most of the pressure off his legs. I usually slept with my arm bracing his back side, so he wouldn't have to hold himself on his side. Again, if you're a heavy sleeper, this too would be no good. I woke if Gabe twitched. The other thing that I shoud mention is with all Gabe's fussiness, everytime he really seemed bothered by his casts, there was a real problem to be fixed (plaster pinching him... blisters... not enough padding) so follow your instincts. If you suspect there's a problem, take your child in to get recasted. Anyway, this is what worked for us. Good Luck!
