Guest guest
now that I have decided to get this wls and forget about diets, I have really noticed how MANY ads are for diet weight loss products. Seems to be at least 50% of ads on radio, tv, etc. are for diet products. No wonder " they " don't want to lose us as potential customers! It feels good to hear those ads and think I'd rather try something that will work for the long term. I know i can lose weight on a diet, but keeping it off is another thing. Now - a few quick questions. Post-op I guess it is best to eat proteins and fats during the " window of opportunity " which is supposed to be 18 - 24 mos, right? But after that, what do most of you eat? I know protein first, but from what I've read here, this isn't the atkins diet for the rest of your life, is it? also - does anyone know which government employees insurance is best for this? Did anyone on this list work for the gov't and have insurance and get approval? And if so how much was covered? I am asking for a friend who is thinking about this also. btw, there is an Ohio congressman who is going to try to get a bill passed that mandates all insurance in OH must pay for wls. So, I wrote to him thanking him and told him about DS, since I wanted him to know that most companies will pay for RNY but some not DS and if he is going to fight, to fight for both. I sent him lots of links (a link to this list was one of them) and Dr. Hess brochure, the Web MD by Anthone and some posts that I thought would clarify things (the great one by Hull? I think thats who wrote it about the differences in surgery in readiness to fight with Aetna). He wrote me back and thanked me and said he needed to get informed. Here is the link to the newspaper article about him The Columbus Dispatch Online: Archival Article and here is his email address Sen33hagan@... This is the best list for information - thanks so much! Carole

I had my surgery with him and 2 other surgeons. It was a total of 110 minutes and I had my gallbladder and appendix out as well along with my tubes tied. My common channel is 65cm...and I thought it would be 75 since that is his norm so I'm going to ask but I think he does it according to your health, habits, weight, etc. I'm not complaining, I'm having no problems and it will help me lose better. The hardest part was the first 12 hours after surgery. In Spain you are sent to your room as you wake up and that was hard, but I'm almost to the end of the 2nd week and doing great. Very tired but still not much pain anymore...nothing a little Tylenol won't handle and its usually cause I've overdone it! I'm off to try to work for a couple hours.....that will be a real challenge...LOL Talk to you later ~~* AJ *~~ BMI 64 Post op 7/24/01 self pay - Dr Baltasar -Alcoy Spain Check out the Bellingham Support for WLS WWW.lookin2bthin.homestead.com

Guest guest
I don't know which government insurance is best, but I know that I just got approved by Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Federal Employees Program in 2 business days. My BMI is 40, and I don't have life threatening co-morbidities... So BCBS worked for me. Greg
