For those of you who have already gone through the insurance approval process

and had to make a diet history, can you give me an idea of how you did this?

I listed the other day what I could remember of my diets since age 9 - I know

some of them were Dr. assisted, but that was a long time ago and I do not

remember who my Drs were. I don't even remember who my Drs were like 15 yrs

ago, since it seemed like each time I got new insurance (from a different job

or x-husband's job) I changed Drs. I lived in CA then and cannot for the

life of me even think of the names of those Drs.

I was wondering - did you just list dates, weights, types of diets, weight

lost, then weight gained, or did you do it in a narrative style, with your

feelings of triumph (when you thought you'd finally lost and wouldn't

re-gain) followed by frustration (upong re-gaining AGAIN). Would the facts

only be best, or would something about my feelings help the people reading

all the various attempts make them understand me more as a person and how

hard I've tried all my life to battle this & *^%^* & & ^ weight

problem?

It is not neccessaey to list the doctors. Just put medically

supervised in next to the diets that a doctor supervised. I created

my diet history using a MSWord table. I put in my starting weight the

name of the diet, time on the diet, weight gained post diet, and if

it was medically supervised. I also dated the diets start and end

date I rounded it out to the month. My diet history was an eye opener

for me, I realized that since the age of 15 I have always been on a

diet with the exception of a couple months here and there. Those days

are over.

If you would like to see my diet history let me know.

I had a sheet where I just had to fill in the diet, when I did it, how much

lost, how much regained. I think my first diet was also at ten. I honestly

cannot remember how much I lost and regained on all of my diets. I just

filled it in as closely as I could. I have never used drugs such as Meridia

or Redux. It obviously wasn't a problem. Try not to worry. The point of the

history is to show that you did try to lose weight by conventional methods.

Yes, I did the same thing, basically I did the best I could with my

limited recollection. Some things I had laying around (old checks to

drs., weight watchers binders with membership cards, etc.). I just

did the best I could, they accepted it fine.

Ok, folks, I have been working on this. finally got it in pretty good shape

and realized that I have been on 25 twenty-five diets that I can remember. I

am not young, 53 yrs old, however, dieting started at age 9, so thats a lot

of diets. I also figured out I have lost 411 lbs (and obviously re-gained

those lbs) and that is only what I can remember. That doesn't even count the

tiny diets I went on that lasted a day or two.

WOW - this actually made me cry!

So, if someone looks at me and thinks I am a fat slob with no discipline -

well, it seems that all my life I have been dealing with this issue and have

had to have discipline to keep trying. Thats just the point - I am through

" trying " . I don't have the will to try again, knowing I will lose, but just

re-gain AGAIN. That is the reason I am looking into this surgery. I wish I

could have had it 20 yrs ago or even sooner, so I could have enjoyed my youth

and my life.

The numbers don't even speak of the tears I have cried, the abuse I have

suffered because of my weight, the discrimination I have felt, the dates I

have lost, the life experiences I have lost.

I know you have all " been there " too. Thats why the person who posted " this

is what worked for me " with their whatever they wanted to sell......well, I

am through with trying the next new thing. Watch carefully and you will see

at least 50% of the things that are sold on TV, Radio, on the net, are WEIGHT

LOSS products. IF they worked, we would all use them. They don't work. You

can lose a few lbs over and over and over and over until you are sick of it.

The last straw for me was just thinking this is the way its gonna be, I will

just have to accept it, and then thinking again about wls and finding out

about DS. This is all I want to try now, because when I lose weight, I want

it to be for good, not to re-gain. Thats why I wouldn't want to do RNY. Can

you imagine getting your insides cut up and then re-gaining weight again??

What a failure I would feel like if I had RNY and that happened. And I did

look into wls about 20 yrs ago, but just never did it. And even saw a

surgeon - but did he tell me I would have to chew my food to a pulp and

throw-up and have dumping syndrome?? NO! But I still didn't want to go

through with it. I would have really been upset to find this out after.

Oh well, I am just venting because this has been a real eye-opener for me.

For those who are on the fence, start doing your diet history and see for

yourselves how many times you have tried the " conventional wisdom " way of

losing weight.

Also note the disclaimers on all diets " your results may vary " and how they

NEVER promise once the weight is off, it will stay off, because they CAN'T.

They all know its just a temporary measure, but they sure want your dollars

in the meantime.

and the other 50% are food designed to make us gain weight! We can't win...
