Guest guest
Marla, I'm pretty sure it's in the same class as Remicade, the biologicals. But I don't know why Remicade is used more for sarc. I'll try to get some info for you in the next day or two. Remind me if I don't get back with it, okay? I wonder if the insurance is more willing to pay for it because it's cheaper; I don't really know the cost of Humira, but I know that Remicade is very expensive. Guest guest
Yes it is in the same family as Remicade is, just wonder if anyone has had any luck on it, but of course I don’t know that it is approved yet, by the insurance company and I hate to say this, but the “husband” too, that’s all I will say now! Guest guest
Marla, so far I've found that Remicade is probably more effective for sarcoidosis, but since Humira is an injection that can be given at home, it's undoubtedly less expensive, so that might be why the insurance company will cover it. I'll keep trying to learn more. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Proverbs 17:22Windows Live Hotmail and Microsoft Office Outlook – together at last. Get it now! Guest guest
Marla, Dr. Baughman will be speaking at the Indy conf. on Saturday; I'll try to remember to ask him about it. Judy Basso called me tonight; they got into Indy today & are really excited. Robbie told them that 75 people are registered for the conference. I told Judy to remind me to ask Baughman about the Humira,so maybe between the two of us, we'll remember! Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
Thanks Rose, ask him if there is anything on paper that I could send to the insurance company about the Humira, or even the Remicade, we’re not taking this seating down, we are going to appeal, as the weakness has progressed into the right leg now, I find myself tripping, and trying to make sure there is something I can hold on to or grab, sometimes it’s just my friends. Guest guest
Marla, I still don't believe your insurance will cover Remicade? If not being too nosey, what kind do you have? I was started on Remicade about 3 yrs ago, I think ,(of course, I can't remember). It was just when Remicade was being approved for some diseases. This is what my Rheumy dr. did, he wasn't too sure that my insurance company would coover Remicade for sarcoidosis alone, so he stated that I had Rheumatoid Arthritis and it went ride through and got approved. I know he did a little rediagnosing, but it was approved.. Guest guest
Marla, okay, this is straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I just got home from Indianapolis. Dr. Baughman talked about Remicade, Enbrel & Humira. He said that Humira is basically Remicade in an injectable form. When they looked at the 3 drugs for treatment of sarc, the Remicade had a much better response rate, but has a 10% rate of anaphylaxic reaction. The Enbrel & Humira are subq injections, and have pretty much zero risk of anaphylaxis. The response wasn't as good, but Baughman thinks that there is a good chance that it might just take longer for them; possibly 6 months like the MTX. He said that Humira is about half the cost of Remicade. Of course, one could argue that if it takes 6 months of Humira to see the results you might have in a couple of months with Remicade, maybe it really isn't so cost-effective. Anyway, it was very interesting & I learned a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, I don't remember a lot of it & he didn't provide handouts. He talks so dang fast I couldn't get much of it written down; what I did write down is chicken scratches! I'm going to email him & see if I can get some kind of reference for his slides. His wife was great; I really enjoyed her talk. Judy & her husband taped everything with a digital recorder; they can plug it into the computer & copy it onto a disk. Maybe they'll sell them! Guest guest
Hi Tracie, Thanks for all the articles, my problem is that the insurance company denied Remicade, and Humria, and now we might have a fighting chance at Humria, they sited No FDA approval for Sarcoidosis on the Remicade, but did not site that on the Humeria, and the list they sited was weak, and we can prove that I have all things he says I don’t have! But I can’t disprove that Remicade is not FDA approved. I wonder if they are going to pay for my stay at the mental hospitalJ. Thanks I so appreciate what you do. I have a appointment with the 12 yo PHD of neuropsych this week to go over the testing I had a few ago, this should be interesting, I already told him “Do not go down the depression road”, so well see what he has to say. Guest guest
Rose, I don’t know if I ever thanked you for this information, if not Thank you so much. Marla, okay, this is straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I just got home from Indianapolis. Dr. Baughman talked about Remicade, Enbrel & Humira. When they looked at the 3 drugs for treatment of sarc, the Remicade had a much better response rate, but has a 10% rate of anaphylaxic reaction.
