Guest guest
, I'm going to take my own advice as well and actually correspond with Dr. Herron[i have a scheduled consult with him for 10/24]about being able to have the DS after being diagnosed with colitis. Since this list is so comfortable about discussing bathroom habits I guess I'll just fire away! lol--When first diagnosed I had constant diarrhea but never any acute pain or cramping. This disease was confirmed by having a colonoscopy. I was treated with meds and stayed off dairy in any form accept yogurt ,that is permissable. My condition gradually improved-[loose bowel movements instead of diarrhea and decreasing in frequency from 4-5 per day down to 3 and then 1 or 2 within the first year]. This past Jan., I had my second colonoscopy everything looked great! According to my Dr. and I got a positive prognosis. Since that time I have 1 BM per day or even every other day. Recently I've even been constipated twice!! What a great feeling! lol I can't see why my condition as it is now would preclude me from having the DS. BTW many people with IBS are kidding themselves that it is not something else [i.e.Crohn's,U.C. etc.]. I hope I haven't bored you all to death with my saga!!! It sounds like your colon condition is under control and improving. That really is GOOD news for the DS, I think. I didn't have colon disease or colon surgery but I can say as someone who was constipated pre-op, it really hasn't gotten worse as a DS post-op. I had loose bowels for the first month or so (but never uncontrollable and still pretty regular) but that's about it. I'm so glad you're going to contact Dr. Herron and discuss this with him. I hope that your current situation and improvement will be taken into consideration when you talk about the DS. all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 six months post-op and still feelin' fabu! pre-op: 307 lbs/bmi 45 now:
