Guest guest
How frustrating, we just had the same problem with our 27 month old. We found the causes of our problems with getting out of his shoes were: a) we were given an older version of the Markell shoes from our orthotic supplier (not the newer version with the built in heal bumper), and the orthotist did not put in a plastizode (sp) heal bumper b.) we weren't tying the laces tight enough. If the shoes aren't comfortable, you could try using some saddle soap to soften them up. Good luck. > I have an almost 1 year old who was born with bilateral clubfeet. Guest guest
Hello! My son just turned one and got new shoes recently too(3rd pair). He did have some problems with his shoes. After fixing the insert cushion on the insert and adjusting the plaszitode(sp?) that is on the back of the shoe to help his heel stay down-he has had no problems since. We also only lace four of the five holes as the hole closest to the toe opening goes over his toes but has no padding. The key is to make sure the insert sits down enough(cut the slit bigger if necessary). I would look at his old shoes and see what may be different with the new ones-see if you need slit the insert so it goes down further. The key to keeping his feet in the shoes is the middle strap. Some parents also take the insert out completely (haven't tried this yet). Also-double check your angle to make sure it is rotated out properly as well as double check the length of the bar to see that it is long enough!! Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi! A couple suggestions: tighten that strap down as tight as you can, this is usually the key to keeping the feet in the shoes. If the tongue sits up too high it will interfere with tightening the strap, if so, you can slit the " tongue keeper slot " up higher with an exacto knife, you can slit it almost all the way up to the stitching without worry. There is a picture of this in the tips document (page 2) which I can send you a copy of. Lots of other good tips too, a couple of the moms on this group have put this together for just these situations. If his old shoes are still comfortable for him and his big toe joint is not out past the end of the shoe this should be okay until you figure out what is wrong with the new ones. It could be just that the shoes are not broken in, it could be bar width in conjunction with the new shoes. Do you feel like the new shoes fit him properly, i.e., if you went to the regular shoe store would you buy these shoes thinking that they look like a good fit in width and length? You may need to try different size shoes, maybe he only needed to go up 1/2 size, or maybe he needs a narrow or a wide if he is currently in a medium. Also, check out the markell shoe website to see if you have the most recent style of shoe. A lot of orthotics shops will give you older shoes just because that is what they have in stock but you should look for the newest shoes that have been designed to be more comfortable with a deeper heel pocket and more padding on the back of the heel and underside of the tongue. http://www.markellshoe.com/ponsetiflyer.pdf Hope this is helpful. > I have an almost 1 year old who was born with bilateral clubfeet. Guest guest
This happened to us everytime we had put new straight last shoes on our son!!! It was so frustrating! Our doctor said there is no harm with the toes hanging over and that is why they are opened toe. We found out the hard and expensive way that we needed to never buy more than a 1/2 size up. So the new ones would " just " fit. His toes on the new ones would be right at the edge. We also needed to adjust the bar a little bit further when we put on the new shoes. Good luck! > I have an almost 1 year old who was born with bilateral clubfeet. I've > posted a couple of times before, but not lately. Guest guest
Now I'm wondering if they gave us a whole size up or 1/2 size. I just asked for the next size since these were too big. Hmmmm...very frustrating. > > I have an almost 1 year old who was born with bilateral clubfeet. > I've > > posted a couple of times before, but not lately.
