Guest guest
I have found Value Village to be my lifeline to dirt cheap professional looking clothing during my shrinking. I often find new things. They have periodic 1/2 price sales. I get my suit jackets, silk blouses, pants, skirts and dresses there. Also have found jeans and casual tops. The suit jackets run about $5-$8 pre discount. I came home with 3 huge bags of clothing for $27 during their last 1/2 price sale. I have not found similar bargains at the Goodwill or Salvation Army stores here. Went to a Goodwill last night and the prices were good but the choices were not. Some good stuff at St de s. And there are a few little charity run thrift shops who have bargains. I did well finding 3x (and up) things there and now am into the " large " size or 16-18. in Seattle, bargain hunter > Here's a tip for keeping clothed while shrinking: GoodWill/Thrift > stores have great stuff! Guest guest
> , > P.S. CONGRATULATIONS on your downsizing!! > Marcia Thanks Marcia. I sort of miss having all the clothes in one part of the store-- just in the " women's " rack. I have little understanding of the sizeing mentality. For example, why is it that many 1x and XL are exactly the same size but the 1x costs more? Why are some 20s smaller than some Large? Why can I wear some 176 or 18 jackets and not fit into others size 20? Why are pants either falling off my butt or too tight to button? I used to get dressed in 3 minutes. Now it takes me forever just finding what fits and looks ok. No I woulnd't dare complain. I feel sooooo blessed. in Seattle

Guest guest
My take on the variation in sizes is that once we lose weight, we are more picky about how things fit. We also actually wear fitted things; therefore, the clothes have to conform to our particular bodies better than when we wore plus sizes. I know I have a size 12 waist, a size 8 butt, and size 10 legs. I usually end up going with an elastic waist size 10 and just wear it a little baggy in the butt. I also have M shoulders, but size 12 or 14 (L) arms. I have been frustrated at times shopping for clothes. I also got burned many times on the weigh down, when I was used to making sure the clothes I purchased were not snug making me look " stuffed in " when I was a size 22. I would purchase my clothes too roomy on the way down and they would only end up fitting me for a short time before they were just too big. I even ended up with a few items at the end of my weight loss that I don't wear now because they feel too tight even though I haven't gained any weight. By that point I had learned to buy clothes snug. Of course those items stayed snug and I found them uncomfortable to wear over the long term. But I must say most of the time I love it that I have these problems!!! LOL Dawn Dr. Hess, Bowling Green, OH BPD/DS 4/27/00 www.duodenalswitch.com 267 to 165 size 22 to size 10 have made size goal no more high blood pressure, sore feet, or dieting! Guest guest
, many congratulations on your success! I love hearing about people shopping for smaller clothes. I don't know why the so-called " fashion " industry can't figure out a standard size, though. My personal opinion is that it is a vast and complex conspiracy, but I haven't yet figured out who they're trying to " get " . LOL! I can share your frustration, though. I haven't had surgery yet, but at one point in my diet-history, I'd lost 95lbs and could shop in " normal " stores for a little while. I went to Macy's, where clothes are arranged among seven floors by designer and/or occasion (work, evening gowns, etc.) All I wanted was a simple white button-down shirt and I spent HOURS in the store going from floor to floor trying to find something I liked. I ended up going to Lane and getting a 14/16 for the " baggy " look just because I knew it would be there and I could get it and go home. SIGH...oh how I wish for the same troubles again. > > , > > P.S. CONGRATULATIONS on your downsizing!! > > Marcia > > Thanks Marcia. Guest guest
, Can't wait to have that problem. I'm down from size 26 pants to 20's and starting to fit into suits & dresses I wore 5 yrs. ago (fortunately, I'm stubborn and didn't give away ALL my smaller clothes on the way up. Now I have some transitional sizes to get me through 'til I can shop in the " regular " part of the store. I may even have to go " petite " (at 5'2 " and shrinking, I may eventually qualify). Have fun and enjoy thinking about all the new choices available to you! Marcia > Re: Goodwill stores for smaller sizes /Value > village > > > > > , > > P.S.
