Guest guest
It is hard trying to find "snacks" that are high in complex carbs, yet the kids think they are treats. All the things high in fiber are usually really good options. Grace really likes crackers like Triscits, sun chips, or even corn chips like Fritos. Also I offer alot of things like bannanas and raisins (she loves raisins). We "promote" everything like it is a special treat, and she usually falls for it. You can also make things like oatmeal raisin cookies but use Splenda instead of sugar. (I have not tried this yet, but it is on my holiday baking list.) Actually you can make just about anything and substitute Splenda for the sugar, because it measures just like sugar. My parents are on Adkins so they do this all the time, and say you cannot taste the difference. IF they would only come out with Splenda for brown sugar, but we can't be perfect all the time. Cutting out milk is so hard. Before Grace started her mito cocktail she was unable to digest milk or any type of fruit, it was so hard trying to feed her. I learned really quickly that so many things that may not appear to have milk in them, do infact. Thankfully she handled the soy really well so I did alot of shopping in the "organic" section of the grocery store. That section is also really good to find treats. The soy pudding is really gross though. Also anything labled for diabetics would be a good choice. I will keep thinking of things and will post back if I think of anything good.
