Guest guest
Have there been conferences like this in the past? If so, are the proceedings (from the previous conferences) online anywhere for people to read?
Guest guest
Judy, it's in Indianapolis, near the airport. The registration fee hasn't been announced yet, but it's usually a small amount. On Friday evening we have a fellowship time, getting acquainted with others & lots of good food! Folks with all types of sarcoidosis come; many use scooters, etc. The Comfort Suites Inn is very handicapped-accessible. On Saturday there are several speakers, with Dr. Baughman & his wife, Dr. Lower, finishing it off. Some stay over until Sunday, as a retreat time; others leave Sat. afternoon or evening. I have usually spent the night Friday night, gone out for supper on Sat. with a group, then gone home Saturday night, so that I can attend my own church Sunday morning. As I mentioned, if anyone wants to come, but can't afford the hotel, you are welcome to stay with me. It's about a one-hour drive from my house. My house is not really handicapped-accessible, in that you would have a difficult time getting a scooter into my bathroom, but otherwise shouldn't be a problem. If it's affordable, it's fun to stay at the hotel. Ramblin' Rose Moderator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
This particular conference/retreat has been held in Indianapolis for the last several years. It's sponsored by the Central Indiana Sarcoidosis Support Group. I know that there have been similar events in Tennessee or Kentucky; not sure which. As far as I know, the info from previous conferences is not online. A very small group of very sick people organizes this event each year, and just getting that done is a daunting task. Maybe someday archiving the info will be feasible. Ramblin' Rose Moderator A merry heart is good medicine. For anyone else flying in the country inn has a free shuttle to and from the airport 24hours a day. Also I searched everywhere and hotwire.com had the lowest fare, and believe me I spent most of thee day checking other lower fare sites because Bob wanted to attend also. When checking out places forget Ultimate they make you wait 15 to 30 minutes while they are searching and then they end up being he most expensive. Now were did I put those suitcases? Guest guest
Things I will never do again. I figured that I had to much to take so we decided to leave my BiPAP and Bob's CPAP machine at home. What a mistake. I have severe sleep apnea and I kept falling asleep during the presentations. We had purchased a digital recorder which came with a CD that came with it to download it to the computer to make CD's of the conference. Our life is more than a bit crazy, I lost my wallet or misplaced it in the house and realized it was gone the night before the conference. We are still trying to get things set up around here as bob has his first cataract surgery this friday. When we get the CD made, now don't hold your breath till you get them but eventually we will have them for those who want them. Please don't request them until I tell you that we have made the CD. Guest guest
The CPAP, APAP are the last machines to go into the van after we get up in the morning. I pack O2 bottles and the carts the night before as well as the suit case. Tom knows the importance of the CPAP and APAP machines after he was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. Tom was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea after he had an accident. So, please never think you have to much to pack or take with you. I had my power chair and my Service Dog as well as the other things. Guest guest
Judy, I didn't realize you didn't have your BiPAP; I thought you were just worn out from the last few weeks & the excitement of the trip. I hope Bob's cataract surgery goes as well as mine did. I was amazed at how painless & effective they both were. Don't worry about the cd's. I didn't mean to presume that you guys would even do it; I kept meaning to ask about it & of course, kept forgetting! If you want to do it, be sure to figure out a reasonable cost, including mailers. But I promise not to mention it again unless you do! Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine.
