Kat, the condition I was trying to remember is palatal myoclonus. Here is an excerpt from the Baylor College of Medicine website: Palatal myoclonus is a regular, rhythmic contraction of one or both sides of the rear of the roof of the mouth, called the soft palate. These contractions may be accompanied by myoclonus in other muscles, including those in the face, tongue, throat, and diaphragm. The contractions are very rapid, occurring as often as 150 times a minute, and may persist during sleep. The condition usually appears in adults and can last indefinitely. People with palatal myoclonus usually regard it as a minor problem, although some occasionally complain of a “clicking” sound in the ear, a noise made as the muscles in the soft palate contract. Here is the Baylor web address: http://www.bcm.edu/neurol/jankovic/educ_myoclonus.htm You might research this & see if it sounds like your symptoms.

Has anyone had the problem with yawning and when you do yawn you get these muscle spasms or cramps in your throat area? I eat things with potassium, take magnesium and drink some water with the electrolytes in it and it does not help. It is so painful. They have also run me through the bloodwork and of course, I am normal for potassium, magnesium, etc. Grrrr.Thank you.Kat Peek-a-boo FREE Tricks Treats for You! Get 'em!

Yeah, I remember how it could be triggered by all kinds of things. Most of the sites with palatal myoclonus described it as a minor inconvenience, but I did find a couple that recognized exceptions. I think it would drive me nuts; like having those weird vibrations from my leg, etc., in the roof of my mouth. Speaking of leg vibrations, did you ever see the cartoon I posted in the Photos section about that? I made an album for cartoons, etc.
