I have been on a plateau for 3 weeks. I tried eating anything except cakes and

pies and I still don't lose weight. I think my problem is I didn't eat massive

amounts before surgery and I would really have to restrict calories to lose.

Which is like being on a continuous diet and not what I thought I would have to

do to lose weight after the BPD/DS.

I had my surgery on June 12th and have only lost 30lbs....bummer.

I wish I could eat like this and still lose weight. The surgery obviously works

better for some than others. I think the amount of intestine bypassed must be

one of the deciding factors. If you weren't a " big " eater before surgery did

anyone have to go under 1000 cals to lose?

contrary to what you have been led to believe, your body DOES need some

carbs every day.....the brain especially needs it!

You do not have to count carbs after the DS although some like to keep it at

35 grams per meal......you only absorb about 50% of the carbs (complex) you

eat. You do have to watch the simple carbs such as pies, cakes, candy etc

and go easy on that. I dont pay any attention to calories, carbs nor fat

and Im losing just fine!

I eat baked potatoes with butter, chili, grated cheese and sour cream on

it......I eat some sweets every day......

Gwen,

Have you tried adding exercise into the mix?

I found that, very clearly in my case, if I don't exercise, I don't lose.

That simple. I know others don't exercise and they lose massive amounts, but

that just doesn't happen for me.

Exercising 4 days per week has increased my weight loss from .5 to 1.5 lb per

week and brought it closer to 4-5 lb per week. Obviously this may not be

consistent forever, but for now seems to be the trend.

, Different folks have different ways of eating after the

surgery. I too am a compulsive overeater (or was) and love my

carbs. The women in my family are all great cooks, myself included,

and good eating is a way of life for us. If I had thought for one

minute I would be dieting after surgery, I wouldnt have had it. I'd

of had an RNY.. The beauty of the DS is the normalcy of post-op

eating.

I always eat protein first, and get all my vitamins, but other than

that, I eat what I want, including some carbs. I've lost 41lbs in 7

Other folks stick to sugar free everything, and watch fat and carbs.

Not me. YMMV

Gwen, everyone is different, hon..

I had my switch 5/30, and am only -48 lbs.. but I'm not crying yet

(about the weight loss, anyway). I created a chart for myself.. even

if I only lose 10 lbs/month from here on out, I should still reach my

goal weight. 10 lbs is a conservative estimate, because I wanted to

see where I'd be, " worst-case. " Just hang in there, & try not to be

too jealous of all those lucky speedy losers.. Believe me, I'm having

similar thoughts (Judy, ya lucky so-and-so =P), but its not over yet.

As long as the scale keeps moving downward, we're doing just fine.

You've lost 30 lbs since June.....that averages 15 lbs a month! When was

the last time you lost 15 lbs a month without trying??

We are also very different and should not be comparing ourselves to others

who lose faster. Those who weighed alot more to begin with will certainly

lose faster in the beginning.

Restricting calories is the worst thing you can do. It puts your body in

starvation mode where it thinks its not getting anything so it hangs onto

what it has until it gets the " message " that its being fed and therefore is

not going to starve! Dieting is what screws up everybodys metabolism to

begin with! With the DS you are freed from the evils of dieting. You have

done very well for just 2 months!

Hey! Ive been on plateaus too and stuck there for 3 weeks before I even

lost 2 more lbs so its really slowed down for me now! As you get closer to

goal it slows wayyyyyyyy down! I hate it! But it must be my bodies way of

making sure I dont go too far below what I should weigh!

Ive decided to just enjoy life and my meals while waiting to shed the last

23 lbs......life is too short to worry about not losing any more right

now...if I didnt lose another pound I would be thrilled simply becuz I came

such a long ways and am healthy and happy for the first time in a long, long

time!

Hugs to ya all.....

Losing fast is always exciting. I think I'm about average though.

One benefit of slower weight loss is your skin has more time to

adjust, as well as other systems in the body. You dont have to buy

so many new clothes....

Liane, I love the way you always find the silver lining in the

cloud!
