You have my sympathy. I was so blessed that my mother didn't die.

When I was 14 she was in the hospital with pneumonia. The day she was

discharged a massive pulmonary emblous hit her while she was waiting

for my dad to pick her up. There " happened " to be a spare RN who was

in the room who saw it and hit the code blue button. When my dad

arrived mom was in ICU. While there they did a lung scan. Her lungs

looked like land mines had been exploding daily, apparently she had

been having very frequent little PE's for a long time. When she was

finally alert enough to be questioned her docs asked if she hadn't

noticed ANYTHING?!?!?! Mom's reply? " I thought I was just having

little heart attacks and didn't want to worry anyone. " (Obviously God

wanted her around a little while longer.)

Given her history my surgeon and my PCP were extremely thorough in my

pre-op testing. Dr. Kim made sure I had heparin injections throughout

my hospitalization, but we all (doc, family, nurses and me) kinda

held our breaths until it seemed everything would be OK. My only real

fear about the surgery was the possibility of the PE. But, I put it

in God's hands and had lots of prayer going out for me. I'm very

grateful and feel the best I have in years.
