Guest guest
Hi , For me "tolerate" means just the thought of food makes me sick to my stomach. Some days are better than others. If it is a day where I have to be up and about and going by a certain time, I do better. If it is a weekend, I run into a vicious circle of - Im nauseated because I haven't eaten and I don't want to eat because I am nauseated. I did do some protein shakes while I was losing my 10% (I am 4 weeks post-op today), but have not tried any since my surgery. While agree with the "eating" vs. "drinking" for food theory, for those who just CANNOT eat in the mornings, I don't see it was being such a bad thing. I'm Pre-Op and I'm reading the debate on Protein shakes. And I see many of you are saying you don't tolerate food well in the morning. What do you mean by tolerate? You feel ill?? Upset stomach? Seems to me that many people whether it be due to the surgery or not, are not morning eaters. And now more then ever, you have to teach yourself to be one. I'm personally not on the Protein Shake kick. Not because Kaiser Richmond is against it, but because I think that it doesn't teach good eating habits. I think that it goes back to what Optifast and slimfast are all about. I think that if you feel it's right for you, and you do it smartly, then more power to you. But I think the reason for the discouragment is because many of us, out of control eaters, will abuse it, or the potential for abuse is higher for us. I rather not tempt myself with something that I can easily get caught up in and not pay attention to the calories or even how many of them i'm drinking a day.I would once and a while go to starbucks.. that's what I say.. once and a while. With out realizing you are there daily, and it's now a habit. It's not a treat, or something to get buy because you are running late. I mean for me, I don't think Protein Shakes should ever replace meals. I don't think that teaches us anything about dealing with real food. Only time any of us were drinking a meal was to LOOSE weight, and I think that's what it's always going to be associated with it. I don't think drinking a meal is a good thing, it's not teaching me about nutrition and my body and the right choices which is what I'm to have learned all through pre-op and classes and nutrition visits and readings. But if it works for you, then do what feels right. Everyone has an opinion about this topic mainly because it seems like they are telling you not to.Also for the record.... seems everyone is always referring to what others can do on their programs. Pay attention to you own program, that's the reason why you are in this one.. and not that one.Just Some Thoughts.LISA

Guest guest
: You bring up a good point. I was never a breakfast person. But now I can't do without it. Breakfast helps me work out better, and I'm much more energetic in the morning. And now I'm a morning person (I get up at 5:30 AM to work out). I forced myself to get into the habit because that's what I was told to do. But I hated it at first. Funny thing, now I need protein to wake me up, not caffeine! Yeah, yeah, I'm a compliant kinda guy, but it's worked for me. Maybe I just wanted to please my doctor, but my lab work is now FANTASTIC! And sometimes when I'm eating, I tell myself that this is like a prescription. I was really good about taking all my meds before. So I transferred that line of thought. Sometimes I say when I'm eating breakfast (or other meals), " This is my medicine. And now I don't have to take my diabetes meds, my cholesterol meds, my bloodpressure meds, or my acid reflux meds. " As Martha would say (he he he), " Breakfast... It's a good thing. " Happy mornings to everyone! May the sun shine on your breakfast! Guest guest
I agree. I tell myself daily.. I have to do this, it's not a choice, I have to. I also tell myself, it's gotta work. why? because before your sitting on the sofa, now you walking 2 miles a day.. it's gotta work. I try soo hard, and I do get down on myself when I think i could have done better. I'm my biggest and worst critic. I know I can do this, I have to do this, I want it so bad I can taste it. I have a class and weight in wednesday 1/11. And I'm praying that I make my last 10lbs. I'm trying to remain positive but it's sooo hard. Everday is like soo hard for me to stay positive with this little bit left. My best girlfriend whom I'm going with this through just got her date .. feb 13th. I'm soo envious, but I'm okay with that. It's not a race, this is my journey.. LISA > > > > I'm Pre-Op and I'm reading the debate on Protein shakes.
