Guest guest
, I got a cane, but had to quit using it because of the arthritis & tendonitis in my hands & right elbow. Even using the electric carts is a challenge because I have to keep switching hands for the speed control, eventually using my fist or forearm. It's very frustrating. I saw a hand specialist last year about my left thumb joint & he mentioned surgery, but I didn't even consider it then. They had previously tried a steroid injection, but couldn't get into the joint, so I just went with a new brace, which helps quite a bit. But there are times I can't wear the brace & the pain really worsens quickly, so maybe I should revisit the idea of surgery. Apparently there is a high rate of success, so it might be worth it. Anybody have any experience with it? My thumb joint is just bone on bone now. I did look up the Synvisc, but it said it was only approved for knees. Oh, woe is me! Guest guest
so far I have not fallen, not like I’m waiting too, I do have a cane I should put it in the car. Most the time I walk ok, it’s just if I’ve been sitting too long, then I have trouble making the legs work, at home there is a wall or piece of furniture close enough, and when I’m out it’s usually with someone, but I think after the other night I will put the cane in the car. Guest guest
That’s great news, a handicapped apartment, exciting for you and I’m so happy for you. I picked up my handicapped parking plaque yesterday, I got two, one to carry with me and one for my car, I had time after my OT visit, which was just more questions, anyway I got to Wal-Mart and wouldn’t you know no close place parking so it was the first time I used it, and when I got out I wanted to scream to everyone, “I HAVE NEUROSARCOIDOSIS” and unless you can even spell it don’t say a word! J OK so there really wasn’t anyone looking at me I just felt that way. I told Joe later who lives in his computer world and doesn’t know what is going on with the rest of the world, and he gave me that look and said Mom do you really need this, and I said Joe you obviously don’t have a clue what is happening to your mom, so I got down on the floor, and attempted to lift my legs, the left barely comes up, the right sometimes ½ way and sometimes a ¼ depending on the day, he freaked at for a minute and then said, “ how the heck can you walk”, which is my question too, but somehow I keep going, slow and unsteady, but going. Isn’t it funny how those we live with don’t even think we are sick? Guest guest
Marla, at first I also felt defensive about the handicapped parking, but no one has ever said anything to me & I've never noticed anyone giving me dirty looks. I had the same fear about using the electric carts in stores, even though you don't have to provide any "proof" that you need one. Once I was already exhausted & my feet felt like little knives sticking in them, so I was determined that I would use the cart. But when I got in the store, there was only one cart & I thought "Maybe someone else will come in & need it worse than I do," so I didn't take it. By the time I was back to my car, I could hardly walk & was in tears. So now I use the cart when I need to, but just try to do my shopping quickly because I know that there are never enough carts, at least where I shop. Someone is usually waiting for one. The other thing I do if there are several carts available is notice if they are plugged in & plug in any that aren't. Some of the store staff are good about doing it, but others aren't. It's really frustrating to have the battery go dead halfway through shopping. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Proverbs 17:22Boo! Scare away worms, viruses and so much more! Guest guest
JUst take your original to anyplace with a color copier and make a copy, or if you have a printer and scanner at home scan your original then print it - problem solved! Mine says not to photocopy it-- duplication is against the law. I know that when we went to Sacramento the City Police were really looking at us and my placard when we got into our truck. I think they figured that because I was carrying oxygen that maybe I qualified. She did "run" my placard-- to see if it was the same name on the license plate as on the placard. If they'd asked, I do carry the Registration paper in my wallet, so I can produce that and it has my name on it. Take care TracieSee what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
I know what you all mean. I was once working in an office building before I got my disability and I had already had my handicap decal. We had a parking garage and I would park in the handcap parking space because usually it would be free to use at work since not many people were handicapped there. I also parked there because it was right in front of the elevator and half of the time I couldn't remember what floor I parked on if I didn't park in the handicap spot. One day I came back to my car and there was a note on my car door saying "You do not appear to be handicapped so why are parking in this space?" I was so outdone that someone would actually write me a note saying that when that didn't even know what I had been going through. The bad thing about it is that they didn't know me and they didn't leave their name on the note so I could respond. As you all know, most of us don't look like anything is wrong so most people don't think that we are sick. Many think that I can do things like they can and they start to think that I am not trying to do anything. I even have some family members that don't realize the extent of the condition. They don't realize how tired I get just from standing for long periods of time or walking into the store and they were with me during some of the worse times like memory loss, extremely bad headaches, backaches, dizziness etc. But just because you look fine doesn't mean that you are. I wish I could do the things I used to. This started in my prime at 25 just when I was enjoying things the most and then it seems all of a sudden things changed. I was tired, in pain and uncomfortable from the weight gain from prednisone. I used to be 130lbs and balloon 205lbs on prednisone and currently down to 160lbs. My body doesn't seem like my own. And the worse thing is when people you know come up to you and say wow you got big as if I sat around eating myself to death or I did it to myself. Some people have no tact. But I keep going on and think I have come a long way. I still have flare up and am still on prednisone so I don't think I will 130lbs anytime soon. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Claude, I don't know where you live, but in Indiana that's against the law. It's pretty easy to spot a copy, and at the minimum you lose your placard/plate; you could be fined also. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
I can agree with the handicap placard. I use it too and I feel like everyone is staring at me. I can actually see the elder generation staring like I shouldn't park there because I am younger. I would be very, very upset if I got the note that you did, Shauna. My family , even my mother , can't seem to understand the fact of the symptoms I have. I agree with you there too. They make me feel very uncomfortable when they ask me about daily events, like when I am going back to work, etc. ( I am on disability) Last spring , my cousin, actually asked me to go for a walk on the beach when it was still cold out. And if anyone is from the coastline, you know how hard it is to walk for a long time through the heavy sand. I have to bring my inhaler! Guest guest
At times I sway and lose my footing too. My husband ends up catching me and pulling me up straight. He says "What's the matter with you??!!, like I do it on purpose. When he's not around , I end up catching my own footing and do look like I'm drunk. It's kind of embarrasing when you are in public! DebbieMarla Bramer wrote: Rose that is perfect, let me know when you have them done, I will be the first to buy one! I know people must wonder about me, you know I can not stand in one place, I just can’t, I fall to one side then the other, and it’s not like I fall to the ground, my feet shift without telling my brain or maybe it’s the other way around?? So I always look drunk, people will like grab my elbow and say are you OK, ya I’m fine I just can’t stand or walk or sit or do anything for very long? Such is life? You might want to call first, just to make sure you have everything you need. I'm so glad you did it.
