Guest guest
I'm Pre-Op and I'm reading the debate on Protein shakes. And I see many of you are saying you don't tolerate food well in the morning. What do you mean by tolerate? You feel ill?? Upset stomach? Seems to me that many people whether it be due to the surgery or not, are not morning eaters. And now more then ever, you have to teach yourself to be one. I'm personally not on the Protein Shake kick. Not because Kaiser Richmond is against it, but because I think that it doesn't teach good eating habits. I think that it goes back to what Optifast and slimfast are all about. I think that if you feel it's right for you, and you do it smartly, then more power to you. But I think the reason for the discouragment is because many of us, out of control eaters, will abuse it, or the potential for abuse is higher for us. I rather not tempt myself with something that I can easily get caught up in and not pay attention to the calories or even how many of them i'm drinking a day. I would once and a while go to starbucks.. that's what I say.. once and a while. With out realizing you are there daily, and it's now a habit. It's not a treat, or something to get buy because you are running late. I mean for me, I don't think Protein Shakes should ever replace meals. I don't think that teaches us anything about dealing with real food. Only time any of us were drinking a meal was to LOOSE weight, and I think that's what it's always going to be associated with it. I don't think drinking a meal is a good thing, it's not teaching me about nutrition and my body and the right choices which is what I'm to have learned all through pre-op and classes and nutrition visits and readings. But if it works for you, then do what feels right. Everyone has an opinion about this topic mainly because it seems like they are telling you not to. Also for the record.... seems everyone is always referring to what others can do on their programs. Pay attention to you own program, that's the reason why you are in this one.. and not that one. Just Some Thoughts. LISA
