Guest guest
I am sorry I don't have any information to share on the decision, but I would like to say, being as I just turned 28 a month before surgery - I am sooooo happy that I made this decision early on in life. I can tell already that this will be the best thing for me. Most of the people I know who have had or are contemplating this surgery have been between overweight and morbidly obese most of their lives. Having done this "young" I will be happy to look back at this 20 years from now and will no longer be able to say I have been morbidly obese most of MY life. And for that, I am truly grateful!! Guest guest
Ditto. I'm 29 and I'm looking forward to this opportunity to do this while I'm " young " and not spend my life saying woulda shuolda coulda. I've spent enough years overeight. What was your start.. where are you at now? I'm still on my journey to my 10%, and that alone has been an enlightening experience. Guest guest
I'm wondering if the reason might not have something to do with his age, as some people have suggested already. At 40 or even 50 (which is where I'll be in a couple of months), you can reasonably expect to have to live with the nutritional restrictions and malabsorption for 25 or 30 years. But someone who is only in their early 20's will have to look forward to 40 or 50 years. . . and there's not a whole lot of data on the truly long-term effects on our health of this procedure. That's not to say anything against RNY. I did a good deal of comparing of the two surgeries while I was still making up my mind about the issue, and the overall results of lap-band seemed much less desirable. Not as much weight lost, more hunger (esp. during the initial period), more revisions, etc. Also, several studies show that gastric banding had a higher rate of " late complications " than RNY. Taking all that into consideration, and realizing that I'm almost 50 and want to make it WAAAAY past 60 - which I probably won't if I don't get this weight off - I decided to go with the gastric bypass. I don't know if banding will work better for your son, but it is reversible and he could go back and have a bypass later if he needed it. Guest guest
Barbara Also your health didn't get to severe. Every year with the weight I came home with more health problems, this is not true for all, but it will be for many especially with age. So here's to your youth. Take care.
