Relatively affordable and convenient to Mt. Sinai? Are there shuttles from Kennedy? Sorry, I'm a country bumpkin. Hi Joe, I'm sorry I don't know of any hotels near Mt Sinai; I wanted to let you know tho, that I also had a consult with Dr Gagner in July. I flew into La Guardia, took a taxi to his office (approx $23) then took a taxi back to the airport, was only in NY 4 hours. There is also the Super Shuttle that would be less expensive than a taxi. You can check their site at http://srd.yahoo.com/srst/22430762/super+shuttle/5/29/*http://www.supershuttle ..com/nyc.htm I used them in California before and liked them, but didn't use them in NY just because I didn't feel like going with others, and was having a particularly good financial week! If you aren't planning to stay in NY, most airlines will let you change the flight time for no charge if it's the same day. My flight was for 8:30pm, I left on the 12:30pm flight, it was great! Good luck, Sheryl

Guest guest
Hi Joe, If you are looking to go the budget route, you might be able to find a YMCA within a few dozen blocks of Sinai; from there a simple bus trip to Sinai. I have been able to find both the YMCA info (http://www.ymcanyc.org/ygny/making_good_kids_great.html?branch=guest & body=guestabout & ) and the bus info (www.mta.nyc.ny.us) online. If you don't mind spending money for convenience, there is the Mt Sinai Guest Residence which runs $155+ per night. Call them at (212) 828-3200 for reservations. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Joe-- See the reply above from Terri Hassiak--she's a good source of info on places to stay in NYC. I live here, so I'll be able to help you with bus routes and other things to do while you're here. Re: JFK--there are shuttle buses into midtown Manhattan from Kennedy. Let me know where you're going and I can give you directions. Outside of the Mt. Sinai guest house, the Hotel Wales is near Sinai, but it's about $200/night. The YMCA, as detailed in Terri's post, is cheaper if you can get a reservation. > My consult w/ Dr. Gagner is mid-October....where is the best place to > stay? Guest guest
where are you from? I need to ask my husband forst but we may have a room for you. I live on the island and the train is only a $3.00 taxi fair from my house. It takes about an hour by train to get in the city. --- SKeib13337@... wrote: > Joe said: > My consult w/ Dr. Gagner is mid-October....where is > the best place to > stay? Guest guest
Joe, I stayed at Hotel Newtwon pre-op, there is a link to it on the MT Sinai Website. I paid just around $90. You can take the $13 dollar bus in front of the airport downtown and then take the subway the rest of the way or grab a cab the rest of the way. There are subway maps at the airport at the Ground Transportation Desk. You can also arrange a share ride at the Ground Transportation Desk to your hotel if you stay in a central location. The shared ride costs about $13.00. And you really get a good look at NYC as it takes about an hour and a half to get to your hotel. I took a cab to Mt Sinai in the morning it cost about $7.00. However if you are feeling adventurous you can take the subway and get an all day pass for $4.00. > Just a few questions from someone who has been there. 1. Have you scheduled your Psychiatric consult with Dr. Drooker? 2. Have you scheduled your consult with the Nutritionist? If you schedule all of these on the same day as your appt with the doctor it will be easier on you. Then you won't need to go back until your surgery. Here are some links that I think will help. MT Sinai recommended Hotels: http://www.mountsinai.org/msh/e10c_places-to-stay.jsp?hosp=msh The online Hotel Booking Agency I used. They have the cheapest NYC hotels: http://www.new-york-hotel.net/index.htm There are a lot of options depending on how adventurous you feel. > > Hi Joe, > I stayed at the Hotel Newton. Guest guest
Hi Joe - I just got back from having my procedure at Mt. Sinai. I live in Michigan, so having a close place for my friends and family was very important to me. We stayed at the Mt. Sinai Guest Residence which is across the street from the hospital. It was nice for my friends and family who went with me, they could simply walk around the corner and see me. They also didn't have to worry about public transportation. (They are from a very small town and would not have dealt well with that). We had a suite because when I was released from the hospital I had to stay in the city several days. It had a bedroom, kitchen area, and a living room which was very helpful after I moved back in. Here is their phone number.... . Also, I'm not sure where you are from - but I did all the tests at home in Michigan through my Primary Physician and faxed them to my surgeon's PA. Good luck! Mickey DS - Mt. Guest guest
Thanks to you all for the great info! I haven't scheduled the psych/nutritionist appts, I thought I'd get the psych eval done on my turf, and I'm told the nutritionist appt. can be done over the phone? Guest guest
Thanks for the very, very kind offers... You guys are all so great! I think I'm gonna go with the Mt. Sinai Guest House, though.
