Guest guest
Hi Stacie, I am curious, how long in total did he wear the shoes 23/7? I thought that the protocol for Ponseti trained doctor's was to prescribe 23/7 brace wear for 3 months unless the foot was atypical or otherwise a challenge to treat. & Grace > Wow- Our Dr. (Ponseti approved) had our son wear his shoes 23/hrs until he could pull himself up to a stand w/ the shoes on... that was at about 9 months old. I would check on that w/ Ponseti. > Good Luck! > Stacie

Guest guest
Hey - Our Dr., Dr. King in CA, had him in the shoes 23/7 until Jordan could stand. Dr. King called Jordan's foot " Classic Clubfoot " (right unilateral w/ great flexibility). Jordan wore the shoes 23/7 from 3 months old until 9 months old (he had 5 corrective casts, the tenotamy and a post-surgical cast for 3 wks, then into the shoes). At nine months old he then told us to put the shoes on him at bedtime and naps, if possible. There just have been no real opportunities for him to wear the shoes any longer than that (not that is was prescribed) he's just sooo active and has no coordination w/ them on. I have written to Dr. Ponseti regarding the terms of Dr. King's treatment as well as recently sent Dr. Ponseti pictures of Jordan's feet for confirmation and this was the reply- September 9, 2005 The pictures show the foot is well corrected. The bending inward of the toes is very common in treated clubfeet and corrects in a year or two. It is very important that he continue to wear the brace at night and naptime until he is at least three and preferably four years old. I.V. Ponseti, M.D. So I feel pretty confident in Dr. King's treatment- have you had another experience? Should I be looking for something else or trying something else? I'm thinking that maybe Dr. King had Jordan wear the shoes 23/7 longer becasue he pulled himself up to a stand later? not sure. Thanks, Stacie wrote: Hi Stacie, I am curious, how long in total did he wear the shoes 23/7? Guest guest
Hi Stacey, Our daughter also has right unilateral. Glad that Jordan's foot looks so good! Everything about Jordan's treatment sounds right except usually the 23/7 wear is for 3 months give or take a bit (Grace was no where near pulling up when her hours were reduced - she was 4.5 mos). Not a biggie, you have already gotten past that and I am sure that longer is better than a shorter time at 23/7. You must have been sooo happy when his time was reduced!! 6 months is a long time at 23/7! Jordan will get really good at pulling up, crawling and cruising in his shoes!! Even if he dosen't have them on a lot when he is up he will probably be doing it in his crib. Have you guys joined the CFpics site? Would love to see a pic of him and his little right foot! tc & Grace > Hi Stacie, > > I am curious, how long in total did he wear the shoes 23/7?
