in your message you talk about Matt having these dark circles around his eyes. Has any doctor ever commented about that? Max always has dark circles as well. The more fatique the darker the circles. Everyone gets dark circles when they are tired, but these are different. It was actually the first thing years agao that alerted us to the fact that soemthing was going on. No doctor has ever commented to us abut it. Just wondering.

Rosy,

Just to let you know that I have heard just about every mito mom

mention that their child has these...worse when sick and fatigued. I

think they just go with the disease. I have found nothing that

makes them go away. Maybe someone else has???

Rosy, I've brought up Matts dark circles to his neuro, his metobolic

specialist and his pediatrician and they say it looks like hes

tired, or it could be a sign of dehydration. When we end up in the

ER, the docs and nurses always comment how dark his circles are and

they say its dehydration. I notice they are darker during fatigue,

dehydration and also temp intolerence or when he is sweating, but

the docs havent a comment about it being caused by sweating or temp

intolerance. His metobolic specialist says this is common in mito

children, now i have to tell you i get these dark circles too, from

light to dark depending on the circumstances and it can be heat,

cold, dehydration and fatigue for me too, but have not noticed when

i am sweating. And there is not enough cover up makeup in the world

to cover my dark circles and there are times i dont want to leave my

house it looks so bad!!! I dont know if there has been a study done

on this or not maybe someone else here would know more!? Barb

I find the dark circle issue very interesting as several of my kids have

this and the docs never tell me anything except maybe it is allergies. But

Tirzah and Isaac ALWAYS have it as well as my Mito kids. Tirzah is one of

the kids I worry about for this reason more than any other. She just looks

so bad at times, the nurses ask me if she is ok. I will try to push liquids

on her to see if it helps her. Thanks for sharing the info to the group! :)

Good news is Doc feels we should start weaning Matt off of seizure meds as Matt hasnt had a seizure in over 2 years, (im a bit aprehensive as when we spoke to Matts primary about weaning off seizure meds 4 months ago he replied to me that Matt doesnt have seizures becuase the seizure meds work) Doctor Marks wrote a rx for diastat just incase seizures return, but feels they wont as Matts last 24hour eeg was normal, and it has been over 2 years

Barb, The brain has to learn how to have a seizure, and it can also "unlearn" to have a seizure. It just takes much longer to unlearn than to learn. 2 years is a very good amount to be seizure free. A year or 2 is pretty standard to start weaning meds. I would go for it, you can always put him back on meds, if seizures return.

Glad to hear he is doing better overall, hope you win the ins. battle=)
