Guest guest
When Everett was an infant, I hung rattles from his bar so he could lay with his feet up in the air to play with them. s. Re: Help - Congratulations on the birth of your daughter Kolby. You are so lucky that she was able to have Dr Ponseti work his magic. With regards to getting her comfortable-in the files section there is tips/tricks sheet. However, here is what helped our son-play with her in the bar-show her how she can lift/move both feet together. That is the main problem with the shoes/bars-they go from being able to independently move their feet to having to move them together. With sleep-you can roll a blanket and lay it under her hips or legs to help alleviate some of the pressure. It does usually take a couple of days to adjust to the shoes. My son sleeps in sleep blankets/sacks which I believe aid in his comfort as he doesn't get tangled up in sheets and blankets. Hope these help! Enjoy the straight tootsies and baths!! Guest guest
With your help, she will learn to move her feet together rather than seperately. Dr. P advised us to lay her on her back when she was alert and hold the bar, moving it up and down so her legs moved/bent in unison. It helped our son adjust quicker i think. The important thing is to note if she is in pain (and fix that issue), and if not in pain, then to be patient and keep the shoes on at all cost. She will adjust in a few days, and so will you! s. We have kept up by reading the messages, however, this is my first posting since our daughter was born. Our beautiful baby girl, Kolby was born on Aug 15th. We had her first cast put on by Dr. Ponseti on 8/24. She actually only had RCF and her left was turned in only at the top of the foot. Her right foot was casted 7 times and her left only twice. She had a tenotomy on her right and yesterday we had the mitchell shoes put on. Dr. Ponseti has been an angel, we feel so lucky to live close to Iowa City. Guest guest
Hi, ! I hope that you find time to update us on how Kolby is doing. I hope that the tips document helps you out some! Remember that those little leg muscles aren't used to being free without the casts- so it could take some time for them to get over the soreness and the new sensations, not to mention the change of wearing the brace itself....plus she could have skin sensitivity issues. Use a firm touch on her legs and feet- not too light and gentle. Hopefully she's already adjusted to the brace- Please keep us posted! Regards, & (3-16-00, left clubfoot, switched to Ponseti method at 4 mo. old) http://ponseticlubfoot.freeservers.com/

Guest guest
Thanks for the information about the tips and tricks. They have been helpful and Kolby is already doing better. She is still adjusting to sleeping but other than that is back to her happy self. We have been working hard to teach her how to bend her legs together and she is doing well with this as well. Her big sister , has been extremely helpful in making up little songs to sings as we bend and straighten her legs. , 10/16/02, Kolby 8/15/05 RCF > > Hi, ! > I hope that you find time to update us on how Kolby is doing. Guest guest
Hi Lilka, our energy ebbs and flows after this surgery. For how long, I'm not sure, since I am still ebbing and flowing a bit. Make sure you are drinking your water, I would say that is most important. Protein would be a far second. Rest when your body tells you to. This too shall pass. Laurie __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I am 6 months post op and I am still tired. I can eat more but my energy is not what it used to be. I do alot throughout my day (as it begins at 0630 and ends at 2200). but when I am sitting down (watching tv), I simply fall asleep. I am exhausted still. At work, I have to just get up and walk around. I am one of those people who can fall asleep anywhere. Take care. pre-289 op-269 post-188Lilka wrote: Hi everyone. Guest guest
It will indeed pass. I know that its awful when it hits, but it is your body getting used to less calories and more energy spent. Take care of yourself. You had your insides re arranged and deserve to take it easy for awhile. Huggles > > Hi everyone. Here I am three weeks out and suddenly my energy has > faded. Guest guest
I was that way all the way until a little past 51/2 months post op, then I started doing better for 3 weeks then found myself so tired I couldn't take it. I had labs done and I was anemic, so the doctor upped my Iron. Have your labs been okay? Dr. Baggs told me that if your labs are okay, you can still get very tired for some people up to a year. Most people if their not anemic usually start getting less tired past the six month mark. If it's bad let them know and make sure your labs are fine. Take care. Guest guest
, congrats on your success thus far. I realize that your doctor wants you to lose 20 more pounds by the time you see him/her but you have to realize (just as he/she does) that everyone loses at a different rate. Do the program. If you are taking in a lot of carbs or sugary stuff then watch it. Drink your water instead of the snapple tea/crystle light if you can (you must try because its better for you than the alternatives). Make sure you are aware of the amount of food you are taking in. Its really easy to over eat and not realize it. Our pouches don't always let us know (I know that sounds crazy). I mean sometimes you can eat more at one setting than at another (I mean I can eat a cup of food at one setting and I know on one occassion, I ate a little over that cup. I am very watchful now and make sure I dojn't go over that cup limit. There are times when I can't eat a cup of food and that is okay with me). Make sure you are not snacking. Eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Space it out at least 4 to 5 hours apart. If you get hungry, have a protein drink or eat something that is protein and not carbs. Continue with your exercising and most importantly, take them vitamins and STOP worrying about the weight loss. I know it is not easy but stress henders our weight loss. I have lost 110 pounds total but out of that 110, only 82 is post surgery and I am a year and 2 weeks today. As long as I do the program, I don't worry about what I have or have not lost. I am healthy at 140, I can't complain. I wear a size 8 petite and that is the smallest I want to wear. If my dr. wants me to lose another 10-15 pounds for health reason I will continue to try but I was told that I was fine right were I am. If they wanted me to lose for reason other than that (i.e., because they feel by this time frame I should be here because that it what others have done) then I am not going to get myself worked up about it. As long as you are doing the program, all you can do is your best. Be encouraged. Pam Marsh --- da6bearz wrote: > Good Morning All, > > I need a little help. Guest guest
Pam, Thank you so much for all of that I think I understand a little better. Also I'm not crazy about the snapple or crystal light so I usually just have water anyway. I sneak a little watered down 100% juice once in a while. But I will start paying a little more attention to what I'm taking in. Once again thank you so very much, > > > Good Morning All, > > > > I need a little help. Guest guest
, 50 lbs in 12 weeks? That's more than 4 lbs. per week! Awesome! How long did it take you pre-op to lose 50 lbs? I'm happy right now, pre-op, to lose even 2 lbs. a week! And you know that even post-op weight loss goes in fits and spurts, so right now your body is catching up to itself. There's a page in my binder for charting measurements, and at the top it has a reminder that weight loss can be measured many different ways. Keep that in mind. If your clothes are fitting differently, that's a sign that your body is still working on things and you're OK. Cathy C.
