Guest guest
, Get yourself back down to the hospital right away! It sounds like you have a blockage to me. This can be fatal. I am not sure why your Dr. would release you under these circumstances. You stomach may not start working until you have suregery to correct for this. Who is your suregon. I don't know all the facts, but sending you home sounds irresponsable to me. I am not aware of any DS suregons in the Kansas City area and I am worrying that you were another experiment like Larry. If you have an inexperienced suregon, ask him to talk to an experienced one like Dr. Anthone, Hess, or Rabkin. I hope I am totally wrong and this is nothing. If your suregon is a very experienced one the tell us so I can breathe easier. If not, get your ass to the hospital and have them page somebody who knows whwat they are doing. This can be fatal if not treated. Dr. Anthone lost a patient with a blockage from a hospital that took a " lets wait and see attitude " . This blockage occured long after suregery at the patient was not near USC where Dr. A could take care of him. The hospital did not call Dr. A, so he couldn't advise them. Dr. A now requires his patients to carry information cards. Hull > My stomach has stopped working. It will not empty, whatever goes in stays there until my stomach gets so over enlarged that I must vomit. > > I am currently at home with a protein IV. The doctor has done this because I was getting very depressed at the hospital. I have had 2 NG tubes removed. The 2nd one was removed with my insistence, the doctor wanted to leave it in until the stomach started working approximately 2 weeks. > > The doctor wants to wait and see if it will fix itself and if not then they will have to have a Gastrologist go in and clean out the stomach. > > Has anyone had this? What happen with your case? Did the stomach start working? Did you keep the NG tube in the whole time? Did you have to have the Gastrologist fix the problem? > > Any info would be a help. > > Thank You > Seamon > Kansas City, MO > BMI 57.5 > No cormorbities > > > >

I totally agree that should get checked for a blockage/adhesion ASAP (that is, if she hasn't already). This is totally abnormal and, as you say, can be life-threatening. Certainly have the surgeon contact another, more experienced one if they have questions or concerns... blockages are nothing to be complacent about. The doctor said there might be some nausea so we didn't worry at first. A few days after the operation I found him extremely sleepy and took his blood pressure. Found it extremely low. Called the doctor and rushed him to the hospital. They used an NG tube and up came jars of stomach contents (sorry to be gross). It wasn't his stomach that wasn't working, it was his intestines. He had an illius (sp?). Luckily it did cure itself after he was put on IV fluids and some medication. But they were talking operation if it wasn't resolved in a few days. Are you keeping an eye on your blood pressure? These things can resolve themselves by letting your system rest. Rita Black
