I had the DS on July 30, 20001 with Dr. Macura and haven't really

been on line since mostly because my computer has crashed!!! but just

wanted to say hi! and share that things went fairly smoothly in the

hospital. I went in on Monday morning 7/30/01 had the surgery at

11am, ended up needing one unit of the blood I had previously donated

just in case (my sleen was bleeding a bit); on Tuesday night my IV

failed and they had to put a new one in which was very difficult as I

am a hard stick but finally they were successful. Wednesday morning

the IV failed again and this time they eventually gave up after

bruising the @#$% out of both arms. They started giving me jello and

soup etc. Wednesday and I got out of bed and walked around the nurses

station a few times as I was extremely interested in getting out of

the hospital asap. I got out on Thursday morning and came home YAY!!!

and had friends stay with me until Sunday although happily I was able

to get up and down without any assistance. Still it was nice to have

someone take care of me for a few days. It has been almost 3 weeks

and I feel pretty good! have been out several times....trying to

build up stamina (still get pretty tired easily) but generally the

whole thing has been easier than I anticipated. I went for a follow

up with Dr. Macura on Thursday August 9th a week after I got out of

the hospital and I had lost 15lbs! Thanks to everyone with good

wishes and vibes etc.

Hi Jez. I'm glad you are home and doing well! I am having DS surgery with

Dr. Macura this Thursday. I also have problems with my veins and will most

likely need a central line. Did they discuss this with you? Since you have

been newly switched, do you have any pointers for me?

Hey Jez

Welcome back! I am glad that the spleen situation did not become more serious!

Before you know it you will be feeling better everyday and the surgery will

become a distant memory. Welcome back and keep us posted at your convienance.

Hi Sherry, best of luck to you on Thursday! Dr. Macura is very, very good. My

advice is drink as much water the day before your surgery as possible. You

can't have anything after midnight but before then the more hydrated you are

the better in terms or them gettting your veins. I'll be thinking of you and

I'm sure all will go well as it has thus far for me, Jez.
