They are orthotics and they aren't put out by some assembly line in some third world country and mass-produced. My husband and I don't have a lot for money (we certainly don't make 6 figures), but I understand the " why " of the shoes costing 300 dollars. It doesn't make it easier if I were to have to purchase them, obviously, but they are going to cost that for a reason. I also agree that personal attacks are not necessary. I think you have some valid questions, and they just need to be answered. >I'm not asking if > you will do what it takes for your child, of course we all will, but > good grief, it is a lot of money. It's just that in the scheme of things, yes, 300 dollars is a lot of money, but if it's what's going to work, I'm going to give it my best to make it work. Regardless, of whether I think it's a huge pricetag or stressor. I imagine would love to give away his shoes to the babies who need them, but if he did that he'd have to stop making them because he wouldn't have the money to make more. Unfortunately, when we have babies with birth defects stressors are pretty much a given. We are facing having a baby with spina bifida and more stressors than I could have imagined. I don't know what the future holds (baby is due tomorrow), but I know it's not going to be easy. It sucks that there are stressors like finances out there, but it is what it is. My husband's cousin died at age four, and his mother told me she had bill collectors calling her the day after he died. Talk about a freakin' stressor. She didn't need that (and it was covered by insurance, but all their stupid paperwork, y'know, so let's harrass the parent because, by golly, they don't have any problems). Life sucks sometimes. >I have tried to be supportive and reply > positively to every parent that I could. My comments were not directed > at any other parent. Yahoo has been really whacky with getting posts through. I have been getting posts so out of order it's not even funny. I don't think you're being censored, you'll just have to wait for your message to come through! > I have nothing but care and concern for all of you and your children, > so please stop trying to make me look like the bad guy. I admit some of the responses have been a bit sharper than I expected, but I think it comes from passion rather than contempt. Some people are very, very passionate about the results they've had with the shoes as opposed to the Markell (and really the Markell aren't any cheaper. Try buying those direct, I'm sure! Insurance may cover them, but insurance still costs money). I haven't had experience with the shoes myself, but it sounds like they have really helped some people's babies tremendously. The Markell shoes worked great for us. We had absolutely no problems with them. They aren't a lesser shoe, but they don't work for everyone. If they work for you, it isn't a problem at all. If the shoes are needed that 300 dollars is going to matter, but it's also going to work out in the end. Sometimes 300 dollars IS a sacrifice that has to be made. I hope you stick around.
