Guest guest
Hello, I just spoke over the phone with Dr. Pirani who came highly recommended by Dr. Ponseti and by lots of you here. He is very nice and said that I could definitely come to Vancouver to have my baby treated by him. He did say that there were two doctors in Calgary at the Children's Hospital that I should consult with before I decide to travel all the way to Vancouver to see him. Has anyone heard anything about Dr. Kiefer and Dr. Joughin? He says that he knows them and knows they use the method but doesn't know how many feet they've treated or their success rates (he said that if they have done at least 20 feet using the method with good success rates, that I should consider them). Apparently Dr. Kiefer was trained by Dr. Pirani. I will definitely go and see both of them. I actually had a consult booked with a Dr. Goldstein and he recommended talking to these other Dr. instead. I definitely will, armed with my list of questions! He said that if I come out here he casts every Tuesdays so every 7 days. Dr. Ponseti casts every 5 days and that is supposed to be ideal but sometimes it can fall on weekends etc so in Vancouver he does every 7 days. What did all of your Dr.s do? Also, since my baby is due Dec 18, he said I could delay the first casting for a few weeks and commence in the New Year. I think I'd rather start right away or at least get the doctor here to do the initial casting until I can get to Vancouver. Isn't it better to start right away? I am still considering going to Iowa or Vancouver but it sure would be easier to stay in town since we've got a 13 month old and a 2.5 yr old to content with. I just feel anxious knowing how important it is to start out with the right doctor and don't want to mess it up! I could just fly out to Vancouver every week but that is lots of $$ and I do have an aunt there and can probably stay with her. I wonder if an airline would give a deal on tickets if you explained why you had to fly so much? Probably not, but you never know. Sorry to ramble I just basically wanted to know what you all thought about 7 vs 5 day castings and if anyone has heard of either Dr. Kiefer or Dr. Joughin? Thanks!
