Guest guest
I have been told that a surgeon I am considering says no tea (except green tea) after DS. I know some say no sodas or only flat sodas. So, what does one drink after DS other than water or flavored water? Carole

Guest guest
I like Glaceau Fruit Water. They taste great and come in awsome flavors. They have no sugar and no calories. My personal favorite is the honey dew mellon. They also come in Tangerine-pineapple-guava, lemon-lime, raspberry-lime and a bunch of others. definitely give them a try. I think you can go check it out at www.glaceau.com (I hope I spelled it right) I also like the Glaceau Vitmain water that has sugar though. Supposedly the Glaceau vitamin water comes infused with vitamins and stuff like ginseng. Reebok also puts out a " sports water " I am drinking one right now. They come in 3 flavors CItrus, Berry & Natural. The citrus one has 1 gram of sugar 30 calories and comes infused with Vitamin B6, Folate, Vit B12, Magnesium, Zinc, selenium and chromium it also has a bit of calcium and Vitamin C. I am not saying that these are going to meet vitamin needs but they are a nice replacement to plain water and its heathier than soda. Just my .02. Guest guest
Carole, There is Botanical Iced Drinks and Botanical Tea Drinks from costco in the bottles. The tea drinks are quite delicious. Most of the time I just stick with water and have the tea drinks with a meal or something. You begin to crave water after surgery so dont worry too much about what to drink post opt....later on you can have sodas.....there is Diet Rite soda with splenda rather than asptertame which would be better for you when you are ready for it....I quit buying all forms of sodas mainly becuz water is so much better for you plus I save alot of money by not buying that stuff. Usually, when we go out to eat we order a soda and drink it then.....a regular, not diet. Judie

And I think those flavored waters are more costly than soda, so I don't think it saves money (except if you just drink regular tap water). I hope I will not have a problem giving up soda or the tea I like to drink now when I get home from work. Carole

Guest guest
Why would you order regular soda instead of diet?>>>>>> Because of the aspertame in it! Apsertame is formaldehyde that they use in embalming you when you die! Its also felt to be a " trigger " that makes you crave carbs and is a key in obesity.....many diseases are attributed to drinking this stuff. Since I dont drink sodas at home and rarely anyplace else its safe to have a regular one occasionally like when we go out for lunch..... go to this website and read more about the dangers of aspertame; www.dorway.com Judie Re: what to drink > > > for you plus I save alot of money by not buying that stuff. > Usually, when > > we go out to eat we order a soda and drink it then.....a regular, > not diet. > > > > Judie > > Thanks for all the responses about this. Guest guest
I'm not sure why there is so much focus on continuing to use diet products. While I dont overload myself with carbs, I too have an occaisional regular soda. In the early pre-op days, it was the only thing that settled my stomach. I didnt have this surgery so I could keep dieting. And, BTW, I'm down 44lbs in 8 weeks. Protein first, then whatever sounds good... Guest guest
I prefer diet drinks only because I rather use my carbs and calories on other things. (This has been my thinking for years...and it still didn't help.) Also, my hubby is diabetic and it makes it easier on him. Also, I find that non diet drinks are way too sweet for me. I wanted to ask a question though. I tried to search the archives to see why no tea? I have been on a tea kick for the past few days and now I am worried. I usually drink diet kool aid or water. I still crave my diet coke but I haven't touched it. The surgery doesn't instantly change your mindset. I had a really hard time excepting that it was ok to eat fat. The only time I did that was on the Atkins diet. I finally realized that I could have ketchup on this sorry hunk of burger in front of me! LOL Also, once I had the surgery, I had a really hard time believing it would work. I knew for sure I would find a way to out eat this surgery. I also felt like I was losing too slowly. I finally looked at my calendar and realized that I lost 57 lbs in less than 8 weeks! What was I complaining about? Why was I beating myself up? Because of the years of dieting and being fat. That and people kept asking me, " Did you lose any more weight? " " How much weight have you lost? " It makes me obsess. Ok, well, I have rambled on here. Sorry. Guest guest
Thanks ! You have no idea how much I appreciated the visit. It was tough in there. I would have preferred a private room...make sure you get one! I am sorry that you have been rescheduled but maybe they can move you up if they have a cancellation? Also, isn't Dr. Quinn supposed to be on her own in September? Maybe you might want to schedule with her. She assisted with my surgery and she is very very nice. Good luck and keep me posted. Guest guest
I really have to chime in here. There are diseases associated with every product known to man. Aspartamine is not dangerous and I can tell you without it I would have gained an additional 50 pounds pre-op. You would have to consume atleast 2 semi's filled with aspartamine to develop any disease. I don't care how much diet soda you drink you won't get that far in lifetime. Splenda is a wonderful product but still in the same category. You want something that should scare you, how about a product that has had it's molecules removed and reorganized. And then think of your body trying to work with a product that is mutated. Not to mention that splenda is between $1.00 and $2.00 more per container. You also have the fact that most diet drinks are made with Nutrasweet not with splenda. The goal is to get in as many fluids as possible. As far as I am concerned you have to do that the way you feel comfortable doing it. I was not a big water drinker pre-op and I am not post-op either. I do not like it. And I have to force myself to drink it. As a post-op I have enough things that I have to force myself to get in, I don't want to fight to get in my liquids. I am able to drink 64 ounces of liquids a day using diet drinks. I wouldn't be able to do this if I were drinking water. > Why would you order regular > soda instead of diet?>>>>>> > > Because of the aspertame in it! Guest guest
Stella, Markle who is the owner of that website predicted they would find a way to make it sound as if aspertame was an urban legend and they did! Some fella (another Sue Wideland or whatever her last name is) jumped on the bandwagon to save aspertame...know why? The company he works for has an interest in nutrasweet which is aspertame! I no longer believe everything in the urban legends pages....... There are way too many people who were sick on diet products over the years who also have an egroup thru yahoo who are now getting well after getting off of this stuff...... Guest guest
after doing all the research on aspertame if you still feel its safe to ingest, you are welcome to drink and eat all you can. Not me.....I choose to put only good things in my body now. I do know one thing......a friend of mine was diagnosed with MS.....asptertame mimics MS in many cases. She got off the stuff and no more symptoms......it was a false positive (so says her neurologist) For the first time she now does not have a " foggy mind " To each his own..... Some Judie, I said I don't like aspartame for many reasons, some of which are physical. But anybody who wants her message passed to as many email lists as possible is going about it the wrong way. And I found her website to be far too hyperbolic to be believable. Surely she can get her message across without so many blazing colors, different fonts, and capital letters... And for many reasons I DO trust the Urban Legends site. --stella
