I never 'leaked' into my underwear' but I did have bm with more gas at that time... a little on the 'explosive side'. It only lasted for one bm, too so I think it was linked with something I ate (in other words, each time it happened it didn't last beyond one bm). It could have also been stress induced. I was about 3=4 months post-op when it happened, I think. I know I was further out than the initial post-op days. It hasn't happened since then so either my body has adapted to what I ate (I think the first time it was a reaction to a hot dog but I can't remember the second time) and/or the stress that I was experiencing abated and my body adjusted. Yes, this seems to be the only strategy for right now - reduce my fat intake as much as possible, which I am trying hard to do. I'm down to only a few grams fat per day - it's hard to get much lower! However, the discharge is not copious - it's only a few drops, and it's generally clear and non-smelly (I guess about as non-offensive as something this offensive can be! Ugh!) - but it does stain clothing when it gets around the pads, and - well - the hygiene thing *really* bothers me, as well as how embarassing this is. I hope, hope, HOPE this goes away!! And - jeeez louize - if it doesn't, I just don't know what I'll do. Deal, I guess, but unhappily. : ( Not only do I want to not have to worry about this leakage issue, I also hope to be able to eat some fats again in my lifetime.... - SC 8 weeks out today

Somewhere around 10-12 weeks, the problem abated a lot for me. I still wear maxipads, because it is still unpredictable, especially when I overindulge on fatty things, but it is definitely on the wane. BTW, I found that I still have a lactose intolerance, and that this was giving me two weeks worth of cramping, bad gas, and oil discharge. I had thought that my lactose intolerance had abated, but apparently not. Now, back on lactaid milk, taking lactase before dairy, etc., problems are minimal. Saturday night I was lucky to have worn underpants lined with a maxi to sleep, because they saved the sheets. Sooner or later, things will get better for you, but I was advised that, even a year or more out, if you overindulge in fat, you had better go back to the maxipads for a few days. --Steve -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 08/20 =

Guest guest
SC, I think the oily discharge is something mostly confined to the early weeks post-op. I dont hear the long-term DSers complain about it. I've only had it once, but it was a hum-dinger. I was thinking that I alone could solve the summer's oil crisis. Now it seems to be more mixed in with the stool. One suggestion is acidophilus, if you're not taking it already. It just generally firms the stool up, and decreases gas. I would be interested in anyone else's input as well, how long did your oil-slicks last? Guest guest
would it help if you actually tucked a little folded section of tissue or absorbent cloth or something of that nature in between your butt cheeks Hey , I thought that was my secret-LOL. I have to do this all the time and it really works well. I just use some perfume free tissue, but I have to tuck more than a few little pieces in there. I do have some great news- I have now lost all of the weight I gained back after my first DS Plus I have lost an additional 3. It is 8 weeks since my revision, and I was on a plateau for 5 weeks. It is slow, but I am very happy to be losing again. Patti

Guest guest
Judie- try a couple drops of Dawn liquid dish soap.. rub it in as soon as the garment is taken off, then toos it into the hamper. when I wash them (usually takes ~2 days to get a full load of whites), everything is gone.. and trust me.. I tried wisk, era, tide, purex, colorsafe clorox.. lol.. GoJo hand cleaner also works well.. its that stuff made to remove car grease from your hands w/out water.. but its messy to use.. I just keep the dawn & an old toothbrush by the washer hamper.. Hugs, Liane > Meli.....know whats worse?
