The barium swallows suck big-time. I think (I am not sure that I remember correctly-- " learned " this stuff so many years ago) that the swallow is a slurry of barium sulfate. As for the gas, if it smells like rotten eggs (hydrogen sulfide), it is probably a result of the buggers in your gut metabolizing the sulfate from the barium. You are going through Hell and back with your digestive problems. I am indeed sorry that you have to endure all that. Kudos to you for maintaining your perspective and sense of humor through it all. --Steve --

Guest guest
This has nothing to do with barrium but I was wondering what it means when a person continuously burps up a rotten egg smell. A friend of mine has alot of pain under her left breast. Docs have ruled out alot of things including GERD. They think it might be costo condritis. She doesn't always have the rotten egg burps but when she does, we all smell it. Does anyone know what that smell means? (She's had barrium tests, upper GI tests, just tons of tests). Thanks! dee --- Steve Goldstein wrote: > At 2:39 AM -0500 8/21/01, Liane J. French wrote: > >... I'm kinda hoping that > >the barium forces everything to slow down & it > stays slowed..
