Guest guest
I was so happy to come across this site. I feel that it is going to be very helpful during the next few months. I just found out yesterday that my son still in the womb has club feet. I have been devastated for the past day. I am scared, nervous, and confused. I don't understand what causes this. We are very lucky that we have an ortho ped surgeon for a neighbor. Or should I say did because he just moved 3 hours away. He really wants to treat our baby with the Ponseti method. The is just a lot to take in! I was so excited about having this baby in a few weeks and now I am terrified. Any words of encouragemnt would be helpful! I know you all have made it through it and I will too! I am just soooo sad!

Guest guest
I know it can be a very scary time, but enjoy your pregnancy and do a lot of research so you are prepared! Even though your neighbor wants to treat your baby with the Ponseti method, you need to make sure he is follow the method correctly. There is a file with important questions to ask your doctor. Congratulations! Try to get a much information as you can and know that your little boy will be running around and jumping like nothing was ever wrong! 11/19/04 Ultra sound showed bilateral club feet I was so happy to come across this site. Guest guest
Hi there, Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy!! You have definately come to the right place for information and support! We have all been where you are right now. And I know that you are in shock mode right now, just know that this is totally treatable. You are lucky in the fact that you found out by U/S, now you can do some research and find a Ponseti doctor for your little one. When babies are treated by this method, the casting goes by so quickly and then there is brace wear. The brace is worn until sometime around 4. I know it sounds daunting at first but it really does become just a part of your normal bedtime routine. It is important that the doctor treating your baby was trained properly and is following Dr. Ponseti's set protocols for treatment. You do need to make sure that this doctor is but you will learn all this from this site, there are some amazing parents here! I didn't even know what clubfoot was when our daughter was born with it. You will learn so much along the way, by the time your little one arrives you will be something of an expert lol! Glad you are here and we are here to support you. & Grace 14 mos right unilateral cf FAB (her brace) 12-14 hrs/day > > I was so happy to come across this site. Guest guest
Ah shoot girl, just enjoy your pregnancy and enjoy your baby when he/she gets here! I have 2 clubfooted kids here and I have a baby on the way - don't know yet if it's clubfooted or not but.... anyway, just enjoy, don't fret, don't buy in to the guilt, just love the little booger. Take him home and enjoy him for a couple weeks then go get the feet fixed and you'll see, it'll all be OK. One word of caution - if you deliver in a hospital don't let the folks there bully you in to casting him before you come home!!! They'll probably try! Just politely tell them no and you do what you believe is right. Just hold out for the Ponseti Treatment. A few days/weeks won't make any difference. I recommend you take a couple weeks to recover and bond before you start the process of correction anyway. Good luck! shawnee Re: Ultra sound showed bilateral club feet Congratulations on your pregnancy! Don't let yourself get down over your son's clubfeet. I'm 36 weeks pregnant now and my son will be born with clubfoot (left foot). I, too was devastated/frantic/upset/sad/shocked/you name it. I found out when I was 18 weeks pregnant. We are both lucky to have found out early and to have come across this wonderful group. I am now convinced that clubfeet is really no big deal and, if treated correctly with a Ponseti certified doctor, your son and mine will have completely normal lives and perfect little feet. I will keep the group updated on my son's progress, etc. Please do the same. That's why we're all here. > > I was so happy to come across this site. Guest guest
I hope you find this site and the parents on it to be of great help. I know that it has helped us out a lot. I found out during my pregnancy as well that our son, born premie back on June 11th, would have bilateral CF. I was in shock for some time but it really hit me when he arrived because I did not know until he came how it would really look and just how severe it could be. Read and research now, get yourself prepared and just know it is so treatable and is a minor birth defect if you think about some of the other birth defects out there. Sure, it is tedious treatment and frequent trips to specialist but so very worth it. PLEASE WHAT EVER YOU DO, make sure you find someone ceritified, if possible, in the Ponseti Method. We took our son to the top notch pediatric ortho at our Children's Hopsital who uses the method but is not certified and my son relapse during treatment and we then turned to Dr. Ponseti himself to correct my son. We started treatment when he was only 10 days old and he is now out of cast and in his shoes and brace called the Ponseti/ AFO. My son did have the Dennis Brown bar and Markell Shoes but we hated them with a passion because they did not fit properly nor would they stay on, hint - relapse. I have pics that I can share with you if you want to see the process of things. We took pics from the beginning to now so I have plenty. I hope your pregnancy continues to go well and take good care of yourself. Is this your first baby? Mom to 6-11-05 corrected BL CF P/M 22/7 meglynn001 wrote: I was so happy to come across this site. Guest guest
Hi, We also found out at the ultrasound that one of our twins would have a clubfoot. I don't think anyone knows what causes it. He was treated with the Ponseti method which apparently is successful in 95% of cases. I can only recommend it. He had 7 weekly casts, then he had a tenotomy (a small incision in the heel, I watched it, it only took a minute), followed by another cast. After that his clubfoot was completely corrected and looked just like his other foot. Since then he's been wearing the DBB because clubfeet have a tendency to relapse in the first few years. The DBB (or FAB) consists of two open-toed little boots connected by a bar which keeps the feet turned out. He wore them full time for 3 months and then less and less until he could walk. Since then he's been wearing them at night only and will probably do so until he's 4. The whole thing has been really easy for us, Alister didn't mind the casts or the DBB and we never had a problem with it. I admit that I couldn't really imagine him wearing the brace for that long but in reality it's just part of our routine. He's three years old now and runs and jumps just like his twin, you wouldn't know there had been anything wrong with his foot at all. The boys reached all their milestones at the same time, so the clubfoot really has made no difference to his development. I think it's great that you've already found a doctor who's using the Ponseti method. It might be worth mentioning that there seem to be a lot of doctors claiming to use it but are in fact using their own modification of it, usually with less success. I hope you'll be able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions regarding the treatment or anything else. All the best, with (*9/02) and Alister (*9/02, RCF, Ponseti method, UK) --- meglynn001 wrote: > I was so happy to come across this site.
