Guest guest
Are you following the Ponseti method? If so, make sure the bar is shoulder width apart, and the shoes are set at 70 degrees (this should be the angle your son's feet were corrected to in the last cast). Make sure the shoes are on tight enough because if he is slipping a little it could be irritating to his little feet. He shouldn't be in any pain, but sometimes it does take a little time to adjust and they will be a little mad. If everything appears ok with his feet, it may just take a week or two of adjustment. Searching for advice on getting used to the Denis Browne bar brace Help! We need advice on helping our 7-1/2 month old son to get used to wearing the brace. We know he needs to wear it, but he screams constantly when it's on, and if we can get him to sleep, he wakes up screaming every 20 minutes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Patty, Let's put our heads together and try to get to the bottom of this!! This is good advise has given, if the bar is not set up right, your little one will not be comfortable in it. There could however be some other issues besides brace set up going on here. Would you mind giving us some more info... Is he being treated by a Ponseti doctor, how long has he been in the brace, 7 1/2 months is quite late to be starting brace wear, how did his treatment go? Did he have a tenotomy and were his last casts rotated outward to 70 degrees. These questions are important as they will help us all figure out if your little one's feet have been properly and fully corrected. If they haven't been, the brace will be very uncomfortable for him. & Grace > > Are you following the Ponseti method?
