Guest guest
, I had surgery by Dr Hess June 21. I had to pay a $125 consult fee, and $2500 up front because of my specific type of insurance. I dont know if that is standard for him or not. My angel, Teri, also payed the same fee,(we have the same insurance company). Good luck, Meli - -- In duodenalswitch@y..., JEGoff1@a... wrote: > I am toying with the idea of seeing another surgeon, prior to having > Dr. Husted perform my surgery....Most of you probably remember the > conversation sparked last week..... > > Can anyone tell me what Dr. Hess in Bowling Green, OH charges upfront > prior to surgery???? Guest guest
Hi , It depends on what type of insurance you have. My understanding is that if the insurance doesn't pay at least $5,000 for the surgeon's fee, then you have to make up the difference. When they know it is unlikely that your insurance will pay enough, they charge $2,500 before surgery. If the difference ends up being greater, you owe money afterwards and if your insurance ends up paying more, you would get a partial refund of that money. I was fortunate not to have to pay anything upfront. Amy K Surgery 7/3/01 -40 pounds > Can anyone tell me what Dr. Hess in Bowling Green, OH charges upfront > prior to surgery???? Guest guest
What a story that was about the inexperienced surgeon and how Dr. Hess saved the day. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for Dr. Hess from the posts I have read on this board and others. I wrote Dr. Hess a letter asking him several different things when I first found out about DS. He personally sent me back a long letter, along with the copy of the letter he sends to Aetna and BC/BS about why he performs the surgery he does. I haven't shared it because I haven't asked or gotten his permission. However, I am sure if any of you want a copy, you can write to his office. I called his office yesterday and got a consult in November. I got it for the same day they have the informational meeting, so I could just stay and do both. The receptionist/nurse told me to plan on spending the whole day there anyway - not sure why (if anyone has gone to him for a consult, can you answer this? Do they begin testing that day or ???) At any rate, she asked me how I heard about Dr. Hess and I told her on the internet. I told her he was mentioned highly on a list of about 2000 people so she is probably receiving more calls from all over the country now and she said the phone has been ringing a lot and she could use someone just to answer the phone. Well, hard as it is to imagine, I don't even think they realized how his esteemed reputation is known by thousands because of the internet, but now I think they will realize that is why Dr. Hess is receiving more calls. I thank God for the internet and for this list. Without it, I would not know about DS, Dr. Hess and have personal experiences from others who have gone before me to know exactly what to expect. This is worth GOLD to me. I thank God that Dr. Hess developed DS and that he is available for people who need him and not afraid to fix something another surgeon did wrong. I wonder who that original surgeon was and I sure do hope that the original poster is persuing legal actions against him. Thanks for the post. Thanks for the verification of the skills of Dr. Hess who saved the day. Carole
