Guest guest
My daughter is 21 weeks pregnant she had her scan last week and was told her little boy has talipes affecting his left foot. All the dr said that he may have to have physio when born.As you can imagine we all felt upset and not knowing very much about talipes and not knowing how severve its going to be until he is born is also a worry. We live in the Huddersfield West Yorkshire area and if anyone knows of a specialist in the area or if anyone has experienced a child having talipes we would be very grateful for as much info as possible. We have read a little about the Ponseti method and been told thats the best treatment. How old does your baby have to be to start the treatment and is it done at your local hospital. Sorry about all the questions but my mind is working overtime.

Guest guest
Hi, We live in the UK as well, in Bath to be exact, but I used to live in York... The Ponseti method starts shortly after birth and consists of an average of 6 weekly casts, a tenotomy (small incision in the heel), and the wearing of a brace (mainly at night) to prevent a relapse. What kind of treatment you are offered depends on your local hospital. The closest Ponseti doctor is Dr Kiewiet in Sunderland I think. Our son was treated with the Ponseti method as well and he's doing fine now. It seemed really easy to fix (even though it was 5.5 on a severity scale of 6). He's 3 years old now and you can't tell the difference between his feet (he only had one clubfoot as well). He does everything the same as his twin brother so it definitely hasn't slowed him down. We were lucky in that our local hospital is using the Ponseti method anyway. He was born in a different hospital and they said that he would need surgery but luckily I had already talked to the doctor in our local hospital so I told them not to touch my son's foot (he was in NICU for 3 weeks). Feel free to ask if you have any more questions. All the best, with (*9/02) and Alister (*9/02, RCF, Ponseti method, UK) --- grandmabev06 wrote: > My daughter is 21 weeks pregnant she had her scan > last week and was > told her little boy has talipes affecting his left > foot. Guest guest
Hi we live in Brighton and our son recieved Ponseti treatment for his clubfoot down here but because it is essential it is carried out exactly, (problems often happen when it's not done 100% correctly) that we ended up having to look for a second opinion. We now see Naomi at Manchester's Booth Hall Childrens hospital. She was actually recommended to us by Dr Ponseti and she has done excellent things for our son's feet. At one point we felt the Ponseti method had failed but it wasn't the method just the way the method was being carried out. What I'm trying to say here is that it is so essential that you get the best possible person to see your grandchilds feet. We wasted 4 months and a tenotomy before I took the time to get all the information I needed to realise things weren't being carried out correctly. I would recomment vising www.global-help.org and downloading the booklet Clubfoot-Ponseti Management. (If you have trouble doing this let me know and I'll try and talk you through it.) The booklet is written for Health Care Professionals but if you read it and ask your doctor to fully describe the way they use the ponseti method look for any differences. It's the differences that usually cause the problems. You are really looking for a doctor who will stick 100% to the method described by Dr Ponseti. I could fully reccommend Naomi , and since Manchester isn't too far from Huddersfield she would be a good person to consider if you can't find anyone else you are 100% cnfident with. For more details on the method including a video of the manipulations, details by Dr Ponseti, Contact details to email Dr Ponseti etc vist www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/index.html Another site for Clubfoot in the UK is www.clubfoot.co.uk this site is for parents of cildren treated with all methods but it is a good pace to ask for local help. I hope this is of some help. If there is anything else you would like to know or if you just wanted to see some pictures of what your grandchils feet etc might look like you can email me either privately or via the group Try not to worry to much, from a parent who is going through it all, the thought of it is often worse than the reality.
