Guest guest
Has anyone had any experience with any doctors in the land/DC area? (Besides Dr. Herzenberg...I have cooresponded with him and he said he would be happy to see before his scheduled surgery to give an opinion.) thanks so much, , 6/19/05 LCF

Guest guest
Definitely go to Dr. herzenberg. He is the best!!! Don't even think about a surgery. I'm sorry I missed your story, but it is worth all the time in the world not to have surgery. I started with another doctor in Northern Virginia before switching to Dr. H. I wasted 5 months of bad treatment until going to Dr. H. Believe me, you will be glad and thankful. Which doctor are you currently seeing and which surgery are you referring to? artlovr wrote: Has anyone had any experience with any doctors in the land/DC area? Guest guest
We are seeing the pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Masciuch in Rockville. I do like him and have been pleased with his treatment thus far. I just spoke to him on the phone and asked a number of questions. He will be only doing a heel tenotomy with a cast for three weeks, followed by shoes. He prefers to do it in the hospital, that is why it sounds like such a bigger deal than in the office. And scary for us as parents. He knows Dr. Herzenberg and is very familiar with the Ponseti method. I feel much more comfortable with the direction we are going after speaking to him just now. > Has anyone had any experience with any doctors in the land/DC area? > (Besides Dr. Herzenberg...I have cooresponded with him and he said he > would be happy to see before his scheduled surgery to give an > opinion.) > > thanks so much, > , 6/19/05 LCF > > > > > >

Guest guest
Just as a heads up... I was fairly comfortable with our first doctor in Wilmington DE. I also called and spoke to Dr Herzenberg. And from what we spoke about it seemed everything was going as it should. The tenotomy was scheduled. Then my husband and I decided we would see Herzenberg just to be absolutely certain. Turns out the tenotomy would have been done WAY too soon because his feet were not fully corrected. Now I'm not saying this would happen in your case, but it did in ours. Dr Herzenberg has been wonderful.. We never looked back after that. We just went on Friday for a 4 month check up and 's feet are perfect! I would highly suggest seeing him for a second opinion. Then if he says everything looks good then you would really be sure of your treatment. Guest guest
, I read your earlier post about how your baby is not in a cast currently and your doctor wants to do the tenotomy in November, and you're supposed to do stretching in the meantime. I saw that you had corresponded with Dr. H also. Your most recent post here didn't say if you were or won't going to go to see Dr. H or not though. Please go see Dr. Herzenberg prior to letting Dr. Masciuch do the tenotomy. It does not sound like this Dr. M is using the method properly. Even if he is familiar with it....he is apparently not doing it correctly. Here is a website with a parents' checklist that might help you also: http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links The bottom line is that your baby shouldn't be without a cast prior to the tenotomy. By doing the tenotomy when the foot isn't ready for it, it can cause complications (scar tissue) and will prolong treatment....please think about going to Dr. H!!! I don't think you'll regret it! Please ask any questions and keep us posted- Regards, & (3-16-00, left clubfoot) > > Has anyone had any experience with any doctors in the land/DC > area? > > (Besides Dr. Herzenberg...I have cooresponded with him and he said > he > > would be happy to see before his scheduled surgery to give > an > > opinion.) > > > > thanks so much, > > , 6/19/05 LCF > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Hello ~ Just to let you know, I took my daughter to Sponseller (Chief of Ped. Ortho) at s Hopkins. She was born with bi-lateral club feet. He is a wonderful doctor, but club feet is really not his speciality and he is VERY busy. He has clinic on Mon and Thurs. Can see upwards of 50 patients in one day, so it can be difficult to get into him. We are now seeing Dr. Herzenberg and we are much happier. It sounds like you have a doc, but if you want additional information regarding Hopkins or Dr. Herzenberg, let me know. Guest guest
Hi ! My daughter is now 4.5 years old and I must admit, I've gotten very behind on reading posts lately... I also STRONGLY recommend seeing Dr. Herzenberg for another opinion, especially if your child is not currently in a cast... Here's our story: www.geocities.com/joannewalton2003/clubfootstory.html I also coordinate a local monthly support group here in Fairfax which Shook and I co-founded. So far, all of our members are former members of Zoe's (and Shook's) first doctor. And they are all sooooooo thankful that they went for the second opinion and never looked back!!! It happened again. A little girl Zoe's age started attending her My Gym class recently and it was VERY obvious that one leg was much skinnier than the other. Then I saw the scars. I queried the mom, although I felt very bad and thought that I probably could've kept my mouth shut for once, but I was too curious! Well, it turns out that her doctor is the local doctor that we left after just one week and she thought she was getting the best care in the country because he was so highly recommended, and her father-in-law is the president of town and lots of local family members are doctors, etc., so of course their doctor was the best. I really didn't want to disavow her of that notion, but I thought it woudl be worth it if she might have another child who could have clubfoot or if someone else in her local family has a baby with clubfoot. Hope this helps, Joanne W. mom to Zoe, 3-25-01, right clubfoot PS I'm sure many of you are wondering about what has happened with my adoption of a child with clubfoot. Unfortunately, for lots of reasons, we aren't able to complete the adoption at this time... Guest guest
Joanne, Your daughters foot looks very much like 's> (Except his is the left.) I wish I had taken a good picture of it when he was born but everything happened in such a whirlwind. We have an appointment this Friday with Dr. Herzenberg. I can't wait to hear what he has to say. > > > Has anyone had any experience with any doctors in the > land/DC > >area? > (Besides Dr. Herzenberg...I have cooresponded with him and he > said > >he > would be happy to see before his scheduled surgery to > give > >an > opinion.) > > > > thanks so much, > > > , 6/19/05 LCF >

Guest guest
Our appointment is this coming Friday, not this past Friday; when I typed on Thursday that our appointment was Friday, my mind was already into this week. I am excited to be getting the ball rolling on things for my son. I wish I had taken pictures of his feet when he was born. There is one but it isn't great and he was put in casts right away so we couldn't get pictures after that. I would love to have photos to compare because I am sure there has been no change at all. > > Hi , > > So glad you went for a second opinion! How did it go?
