Guest guest
Hi everybody - I posted this to the Post-Op problems group but it didn't go through yet. Sorry if you see a repeat. I'm kinda concerned about this plateau. Hadn't weighed for nearly three weeks and when I had it showed I was down about 48 lbs since May 30, my surgery date. I'd done a guesstimate that my weight loss was about 55 lbs now based on clothing (down three sizes in pants, tops, bra, etc.) When I weighed at my PCP's today (and later at work at our hospital) the scales showed I'd gained nearly three pounds in the three weeks. I'm trying to get in all my water, am eating fairly well (though am having a little difficulty adding fat to my diet, when you've eaten low fat for over twenty years it's hard!) Have not been getting my protein shakes down, they still make me nauseous. Should I be concerned about this? Or should I just shake it off? I've been having difficulty the last few days exercising, fell Saturday and probably bruised a nerve in the spinal column because my right leg keeps having episodes of temporary paralysis. These only last a few seconds. And my hernia (Junior) is getting bigger. It looks like I'm about 6 months pregnant and carrying high. Could that have anything to do with all this? Thanks, P

Guest guest
, I think that the first obstical is to get rid of " JUNIOR " . I don't know why but I have noticed that a lot of people lost a considerable amount of weight after having the hernia taken care of. Second of all you have to try a lot of different protein shakes before you find one that works for you. I tried atleast 10 before I found the right one. I don't like it a whole lot even though everyone raves about it. What I like is that it is thin and I can drink it easily and it doesn't have any aftertaste or anything else that would make me sick. It is called Designer Protein (you can find it at any GNC. A little cheat that I used becuase I hate thick shakes is the Designer Whey Protein Blast drinks which are pre-mixed and have 34g of protein per serving. I don't care if I only absorb 30g at a time I'll waist the additional 4 grams. These drinks are bit pricey but cost less than lunch at Mcs. Now as to the fat thing. It is so hard to think that fats can be good for you. I have not deliberately increased my fat intake but I have at times made some high fat food choices which has resulted in my reading complete novels by toilet at night. And on those weeks I lost more weight. I am a relatively new post-op only 6 weeks so I can't offer as much as others but from what I have seen the fat seems to really take the pounds off. But You have to concentrate on your protein first. Good luck I am sure that the pounds will come off. Guest guest
.... If you are looking for a great tasting protein powder you might look into Whey Delicious at: www.proteinishealthy.com I heard about it from a friend and ordered it and I tell you there is NO after taste and the berry flavor is absolutly wonderful and smells great too! I use the berry and mix with water (I dont like milk) and add strawberries, blackberries or blueberries to it and sometimes some yogurt too. Ive even added fresh peaches with success! 'It comes in berry, vanilla, choc and I think banana and also orange cremesicle (I forget) I guarantee you wont be sorry! Its one great way to get the extra protein in......21 grams per one scoop! I also know from experience that fats help in the weight loss...in fact they jolt you out of a plateau within a day or two. Not necessarily with runny BM's.....I dont get that all the time! But its true...fats ARE our friends.....when Mike wants to break a plateau, he eats 3 donuts LOL Sooner or later you will have take care of that alien.....I wouldnt do it unless it was hurting me though until I was closer to goal as I want my panni removed at the same time. Hope some of this helps..... Judie

Guest guest
Hi Judie - Thanks for your info on the 2nd post about the protein supplement, I'll try it. Right now I'm willing to try anything! I'm a loooong way from goal right now. I started at 330 on surgery day (=/- 1-2 lbs, really can't remember) and have a goal of 160. I don't think that's too unreasonable since I'm 5'7 " . Since the scales only show 45 lbs gone in 3 months that has me a little worried. My clothes have gone from 28-30W to 20-22W, depending on the manufacturer. I don't even remember the last time I was in such a " small " size, so that really makes me feel good. Thanks, > .....how close are you to your goal?? > > Judie > > > killer plateau > > > > Hi everybody - > > I posted this to the Post-Op problems group but it didn't go through > > yet. Guest guest
, If you stuck on a plateau try eating a couple of your favorite donuts and some fried chicken! Last time i ate a donut I lost a lb the next day! (must be the fat in it?) Judie
