Guest guest
1. What is a " panni " ? A panni is the apron of skin that hangs down to your pubic area or knees after you have lost alot of weight....the fat belly that is so hard to tuck in and zip up your pants! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > 2. What is the difference between " distal, medial, and proximal " bypass? distal is almost the same as the DS bowel part.....medial and proximal refer mostly to areas of the intestines bypassed in the RNY patient. we speak of ours for example as the common channel being 80cm......whereas with the RNY distal its the portion bypassed but they usually do not speak of it in terms of common channel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > 3. Are there stats on how folks feel at 1 week post-op, 2 weeks post-op, 1 month, 2 months, etc.? If no, would someone be willing to compile that info? I know it wouldn't be strictly scientific, but I know it would be very helpful for us hopefuls to know what we're in for. At one week thru month 3 I was very tired easily and required a couple one hour naps daily. I fell asleep quickly and woke up refreshed until the next nap.....I even fell asleep a couple times on the computer LOL Food wise, I wasnt much interested in eating more than a lick of the spoon with certain foods. By day 10 I was craving a cheeseburger from mcdonalds and found it very satisfying. Ate half of it and hubby ate the other half (he had surgery 2 days after me) within days I was eating soft tacos and refried beans with cheese on it. Eating was a pleasure although proteins were kinda getting to me as I wasnt that interested in eating them at that time. I also craved ice water! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > 4. Is the " sleeve " just referring to the " hotdog " shaped stomach? Yep!! Judie

I know the north coast is expensive, though...could you drive a bit south to get a cheaper fare? Maybe there's some kind soul in Bakersfield who could pick you up? I checked out fares yesterday, and I can get a $100 round trip fare if I fly out of Oakland...of course, it'd be nice if I had a consult date yet!! Dee's still checking my insurance. :/ I hope to hear tomorrow! alyssa, on pins and noodles...

Guest guest
Hi Shirley, Best of luck in your adventure! and your consult! > 2. What is the difference between " distal, medial, and proximal " bypass? FYI, distal, medial and proximal refers to the section of intestine and indicative of how much is bypassed. Distal = distant and refers to the last section of the small intestine, prior to the colon. Medial is in the middle and proximal is the first section (coming from the stomach). And I thought those anatomy classes were just interesting... -maria
