I hope it all went well. I know what you are going through as our son

had his ATTT done in May, plus had to have his heel cord lengthened

again. Good luck,

Thanks for all the good wishes! Jake did very well during surgery; Dr Dietz

says he is " reasonably optimistic " that this will be Jake's last surgery. He

says he wasn't able to get as much movement in the heal as he'd hoped

(apparently Jake had a lot of scar tissue, from just 2 tenotomies) but he thinks

it will loosen up over time as Jake walks on it more.

A new thing...Jake had a nerve block in his leg, where the anesthesiologist

injected pain medication directly into his leg in a couple spots, to completely

numb his leg from the knee down. As a result he didn't need anywhere near as

much morphine to stay comfortable, and he was much much more awake the evening

after surgery. He even ate a whole pancake for supper!! The only drawback to

the nerve block was that it wore off at about 2am (I was told to expect that

from the surgical resident) and was very painful all of a sudden. They had

ordered PCA morphine anyways, but that did NOT cover his pain. He ended up

taking doses of oral lortab & vistaril (what he was sent home with today) and

that did the trick.

We came home today around lunchtime and Jake is now upstairs taking a nap. He

did very well overall, he was only cranky when his foot hurt. He was thrilled

to have a blue cast this time! =) Kudos go out to the staff at the U of IA, all

of the nurses were great. In fact, the nurse who took care of Jake last time,

also cared for him after this surgery! Nice to see a familiar face. We were on

one of the brand-new units in the Children's Hospital and it was fabulous.

Soooo much better than the unit we were on last time. :)

Thanks again for all the good wishes!
