Guest guest
I had three u/s. The only one who found the BL CF with was the perinatalist. Since my triple marker test came back false/positive and I had the fibroid tumor he was looking very closely at every little thing. He spotted it right away. I could even tell until he pointed out things to us such as deminisons, bend of feet, etc.... He also used a very high level 2 ultsasound. I think the u/s techs aren't told to look for anything other than gender and get actual measurements. They really are qualified to do much observing or are they? Cohen wrote: I had three ultrasounds - one at the lab and two in the OB's office - it was never detected. From what I understand they won't often look for it if there are no other signs there's something wrong (or no prior history in the family). One of the moms I met at the club foot clinic told me she only knew about her son's foot because they had found a cyst on his brain (which later disappeared) in her first ultrasound, so they looked around for other things. I'm wondering if they should just do routine screening for clubfoot since it is so common because at least that way you would know ahead of time. Had I known, I would have been able to do a lot of research beforehand and then could have chosen the doctor I wanted instead of being shuffled off to the first one and now four months later having to make a change because I'm not happy with the way things have gone. I wasn't sure if you need a certain level machine to see it. With Collin I had several ultra sounds at the doctor's office, at places like labs, and also at the antinatal testing unit, specifically looking for birth defects, etc and no one saw his foot so I always wondered. We did have a feeling the one doctor saw it, by behavior but it was never told to us. But there had to be some reason or another they kept on sending us for extra ultrasounds, etc. Just wondering, I'm about 12 weeks pregnant now, and I want to try to have them look this time around specifically for clubfoot just so we have our game plan ready this time. Guest guest
Our ultrasound tech is the one who found the clubfoot but they are usually, due to liability and malpractice issues, not allowed to tell you what they see. That information has to come from a Doctor. The tech saw it and went out to get the doctor to bring them back in to confirm the finding. The tech however mentioned nothing to us. Most doctors are extremely adamant about this point in not allowing their techs to tell what they see. Jenni --- M wrote: > I had three u/s. Guest guest
Due dates are mostly fictional anyway, I wouldn't put much store in one but give/take a couple weeks in both directions. All in God's time I say. Due dates cause a lot of induced labors which cause a lot of delivery problems and sick babies being born but that's another soap box and I " m sorry. s. Re: ? for those who found out via ultrasound Hi Michele~ Just to answer your question, we found out about Maddie's club feet via ultrasound. My OB does a new (but not standard) test called a nuchal translucency test that is performed between 12-16 weeks. This test requires a " better " sonogram machine. Specifically, one that uses Doppler (like the weather) technology. It is made by GE. It is* very* clear! Much better than the standard sono technology. They have it at the University of MD Medical Center, Center for Advance Fetal Care. Not too far from Dr. Herzenberg in Baltimore, 15 mins or so. A perinatologist found and diagnosed her immediately. FYI, they wanted to preform an amnio, which I agreed. Knowing what I know now, I would not have gotten the amnio. Once she was diagnosed, we continued to go there for follow up sonos, just to ensure that her legs were developing properly. I did have a " regular " sono toward the end of my pregnancy, and I could definitely notice the difference. If you can not get to U of MD after one of appointments, maybe you could call them and ask about the GE machine. Best of luck to you. BTW, I have sono pics if you are interested. Guest guest
Hi Michele, I found out during my 20-week ultrasound. I think it was the Level-2 ultrasound. They showed us how the feet looked on the screen and it was pretty clear (even to us). The doctor then did an ultrasound every 4 weeks to follow the progress - they wanted to make sure that she was growing and to make sure that everything else was fine. He did tell us that it could be positional but he was quite certain that it was clubfoot and told us to be prepared (look for doctors). Congratulations on your pregnancy! Guest guest
- We found out at our 20 week ultra sound. It was routine and it was on a regular ultra sound machine. The docs here saw it first and then sent us to have a level two ultra sound, which is stronger and they confirmed the club foot. Hope this information helps. Good luck. and Kolby 8/15/05 RCF > > Hey everyone, We didn't know about Collin's foot through the ultra > sound and I was wondering if you found out through the regular ultra > sound machine in the office or stronger ones they out sourced you > too? Guest guest
I had lots of ultrasounds while I was pregnant because the doctor was monitoring a very large fibroid and a cyst but they never saw that my baby had clubfeet. I even had a 3D ultrasound. He told me that it is more difficult to tell if both feet are affected. The birth defect apperas in the begining of the second trimester so it would be a good idea to check before it gets too crowded in the womb because the feet will look like they are just curled up. I wish I had known before hand so I could have done research with time and would have not wasted time with inexperienced doctors. It was a shock when my husband told me what was going on, mainly because I had no idea of what it was about. If it is a common birth deffect I think they should warn you just as they do with spina bifida, cleft palate (spelling?) and others that are far more serious. andra > > > > Hey everyone, We didn't know about Collin's foot through the ultra > > sound and I was wondering if you found out through the regular > ultra > > sound machine in the office or stronger ones they out sourced you > > too?
