Ya see Alyssa, I told you all you had to do was have some faith!

Dee at Dr. K's office -- boy, is she NICE!

She was very patient with my nervous-about-the-insurance-company questions.

She said they've had 2 or 3 Cigna patients (at least one Cigna PPO)

approved, which was also good news! They're also working on getting

contracted with Cigna, which would reduce my out-of-pocket by another $1000,

which would be awesome. Currently, my out of pocket expenses break down as

follows:

program fee: $2000 (not covered by ins, money due at time of surgery)

co-pay: $2000 (the max I have to pay in a year out-of-pocket for

out-of-network providers...this goes down to $1000 if they get networked

before surgery...at least a deposit on this amount due at time of surgery --

more excellent news -- the hospital will allow a payment plan for this

money!!)

deductible: $250 (which I probably will have met by then)

She also said that there's a woman down there in Delano who rents out rooms

to Dr. K's patients and will even help you with things like food and

possibly even getting to the airport. I'm going to find out more about this

since I'll probably be by myself for my post-hospital time (husband has to

go home to care for babies).

Even better news: she said my goal of surgery by the end of December is

reasonable and do-able!! YAY!

More good news: I have my surgical consult on October 12!! YAY YAY YAY!

Dee said I'm doing all the right stuff by getting my prescription records

(showing proof of having taken Phen/Fen) and other doctors' records.

Now how do I break the news to my husband that this is going to cost $3-4k

(instead of the $1k I had anticipated) and that I have to go to Delano???

Suggestions??

Also, what was your BMI and co-morbidities? I'm trying to draw as many

parallels as possible. Thanks!

Hello all who are in the bay area -

I wanted to tell you all that in the web site for Dr

Rabkin www.pacificsurgery.com there is a place called

the clothes closet. I think this is an excellent idea.

There is a person in San Francisco, I believe a

patient of Dr Rabkin's that trades your big size

clothing with nice smaller size clothing. All she

askes for is clothing in clean and in good condition.

She does not ask for money, but I'm sure would take

donations. Theis is for women and men.

Tami

Alyssa,

I stayed on the insurance companies butt! By calling daily and such. I even

threatened to show up in person if need be! I was approved very quickly. I

am a credentialed medical claims mediator. I do it part time now for a

living to help others. I guess I am getting pretty good at it! LOL

My BMI was 50 when I started. I was 5'6 " and 300 pounds. I had a long list

of co-morbidities which are all but gone now!! I had high blood pressure,

diabetic, incontinence, heartburn, and I am sure I am forgetting some. On

the DS web page under " Deanna " on ,my patient page I list them all.

Deanna

300lbs bmi 50 day of surgery 02-15-01

200lbs. bmi 32 as I sit here now !!!

THANKS GOD !!!!
