Guest guest
Way to go Marci and Mollie! With the shots-we limited david to 2 at a time to make sure that the reactions were minimal(he had none). It took longer but I felt more comfortable rather than loading him up with a bunch of vaccinations all at once. I have to tell you-I laughed when david got his first set. He was so happy and cooing at the nurse-the minute he felt the first poke-his face was priceless!! keep baby tylenol handy as the first night after the shots may be a little painful for Mollie! Take care, kathleen mom to david fab 12/7 > > On Monday last week Mollie got her last casts removed and into her > Dobbs brace. Guest guest
Marci, I'm glad to hear that things are going better now, sounds like you had a hard time of things. You see Dobbs at Shriner's right? I'm wondering how the support was, and was it the orthotist's decision or Dr. Dobbs', to put her in the Markells instead of the Dobbs brace? And did they tell you why they were using the red bar instead of the articulating bar? Sorry for all the questions, I am curious. Hope things continue to improve for you and Mollie! > > On Monday last week Mollie got her last casts removed and into her > Dobbs brace. Guest guest
Marci, hang in there!!! I promise it get's better & easier. Before long you'll think nothing of it and you'll even be able to put them on by yourself. Now Aidan is getting so big he won't stay still for his shoes. So my husband and I wait till he falls asleep, play rock, paper, scissors and the loser is off and running. Thankfully it doesn't take any time at all once he's fallen asleep. I promise it get's easier. marci21175 wrote: On Monday last week Mollie got her last casts removed and into her Dobbs brace. Guest guest
I know exactly what you are going through. When my daughter went in the DBB the first time she cried all the time and I knew it had to be because she was in pain. She is such a brave baby she only cries when something is really wrong. She has atypical clubfeet, very chubby and stiff and it took a total of 9 casts to correct her feet. (four casts with two docs in Florida and 5 casts with Morcuende in Iowa). The reason it was so hard was because after 4 casts the doctor in Florida thought he had accomplished a correction (although I didn't think so) and sent the DBB. The shoes slipped off all the time, specially the left one, she would fall sleep for 30 min. and would wake up crying...I cried as well and then decided it was time to go to see Ponseti. I called him and he talked to me for like a half hour and told me to take off the shoes and go to see him ASAP. After he saw the pictures I e-mailed him he told me the feet were not fully corrected and that he recommended the Mitchel shoes for atypical clubfeet. Another member of this group also told me that it was the best thing to do. We went to Iowa and after 5 more casts and the Mitchel shoes... what a difference!! It only took three days for to master the shoes....she even plays with the ends of the straps, never fusses when I put them on and only had a little tiny blister that healed easily. Show your baby to lift both feet at the same time and don't let her see you cry....although they are so little, they pick up the vibes from you. I know it is difficult but smile when you put them on and make it look like it is as natural as changing the diapers. Hold her a lot and when you go for shots, give her a warm bath first, some Tylenol once the doc says it is Ok and put her in a sling against your chest until she falls asleep (it is possible to carry babies in a sling even with the DBB, it takes practice) Hope my advice helps andra > On Monday last week Mollie got her last casts removed and into her > Dobbs brace. Guest guest
, Yes, we do go to the Shriner's to see Dobbs. Mollie's feet are very short and wide. We were there for several hours going back and forth from the dr to the shop adjusting this and that and waiting and watching till we all felt like it was right. We were staying in town and leaving Tuesday morning so a had us stop in and see her before we left. Since we had so much trouble with slipping, she went with us to the shop and had them fix us up with this brace till her feet grow a little. It does seem to work better for us, her feet do stay put. It just takes of lot of practice on my part getting them on correctly. Thankfully it gets better each day. Guest guest
Thank you. It sure helps alot to know I'm not alone in this and that it does get easier. I have always heard wonderful things about her and I finally got to meet her when I was in Iowa. She was super nice! And it will get better and better as far as the shoes go, it is easier as the shoes get broken in and as the feet grow. Guest guest
, Yes, a is great. I really like it there, everyone is is so friendly and helpful. At the first Dr we went to I always left feeling confused and not really understanding anything. I asked questions but he talked in circles and didn't really answer anything. In St. Louis, anyone will will talk to you, help, answer questions, explain things, and find you help. I always leave there feeling good about our visit. Plus, I feel good about calling anytime with any question no matter how silly it may seem. Dr. Dobbs and a have really made a difference in our life.
