Guest guest
Hi everyone. I am the mother of . She is now 9 months old. She was born with atypical bilateral clubfeet. We are going to Iowa in two weeks because she needs a second tenotomy. Dr. Morcuende corrected her feet when she was 3 months old (before that the other doctors failed). She is progressing and gaining strength in her feet but the achiles tendon got tight again and she needs more treatment. We hope she will be out of casts and wearing the shoes at night only by 12 months old so she can start her first steps. I just want everyone to know that if you have a baby with clubfeet out there you should go to see Ponseti to Iowa or talk to him so he can recommend a trained doctor. There is absolutely no better treatment that the Ponseti method. Believe it or not babies get used to the bar and they will sleep through the night wearing the shoes eventually. They are amazing and can get used to anything. You just have to cuddle them a lot during the day and one day your little one will start playing with the shoes as if they were a built-in toy. We lived in Florida for 3 years and moved back to my homeland, Costa Rica 5 months ago. I take to see a costarrican orthopedist trained by Ponseti and he told me that there are about 70 new cases of babies with clubfeet per year in Costa Rica (population of 4 million in the country). We buy the Mitchel shoes and will donate the used shoes to poor people who can't afford them. I would like to know what we can do to try to gather some used shoes that you might want to donate as well (form a non profit company maybe to make it legal). The costarrican doctor has a PO Box in Miami where the shoes can be sent to. I'd like to hear ideas, maybe we all could help desperate families in Costa Rica. Thank you all. You are free to ask any questions. andra Salguero.

Guest guest
andra, I just wanted to let you know that Ponseti collects shoes to send around the world too. I have sent two pairs too him to send out myself. If you contact him, maybe he could put your daughters clinic on the list of clinics he sends shoes. It couldn't hurt... meli_costarica wrote:Hi everyone. I am the mother of . She is now 9 months old. She was born with atypical bilateral clubfeet. Guest guest
Hi andra, If you post your request on the other board, http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/clubfoot/ Hopefully Tracey will see it and reply, she runs a non-profit charitable organization for kids with orthopaedic conditions. I think she had cf and her daughter does too. I thought I had saved her site info but can't find it right now. Anyway, try posting to the other board as well, she is on both. tc & Grace > > Hi everyone. I am the mother of . She is now 9 months old. She > was born with atypical bilateral clubfeet. Guest guest
I'd be GLAD to donate my daughters shoes when she is finished with them. I'm glad that they can be of use for someone. I had asked my Doctor if there was a way to donate my shoes here in the US, but, he told me that that was not possible. I'd be glad to send the shoes to the PO Box in Florida if you give me more info. a
