Actually, I am surprised by that article. I was at NYU and I found

ALL of the staff professional, courteous and efficient. My

preadmission testing was a breeze, after surgery, my nursing care in

the recovery room and on the floor was amazing. The nurses answered

every call quickly and took care of my needs efficiently. My nurses

were definately not " kids out of school " , but seasoned professionals.

After my catheter was taken out, I had trouble emptying my bladder

and the nurses were in my room practically every 10 minutes for

several hours monitoring my progress before I had to be recatherized.

A good friend had her surgery the same day as mine and she was just

as pleased with the nursing care at NYU as I was.

Liane,

With all due respect, this may very well be completely true. All I can say

is that my experience at NYU was a completely positive one. The staff with

whom I came in contact were dedicated, competent, and, most of all,

compassinate. I never felt the need to hire a private duty companion or

nurse because my needs were fully and caringly met.

That was why I posted it-- I NEVER hear complaints here about NYU.. I

wondered if maybe it was different floors (from the bariatrics

floor)or something.. I had to double check to see that they really

said NYU and not Mt Sinai!

Wondering & learning..

Dear Liane,

NYU doesn't have a designated bariatrics floor that I know of. I was

on the transplant surgical floor, another of Dr. Ren's patients was 3

floors above me in a surgical unit and another gal who had her

surgery the same day was on the same floor as me but in a different

unit on another wing. We visited each other, compared notes and were

all happy and satisfied with the nursing staff. I would chat with the

night nurses and most had worked there for awhile. One really

fabulous nurse looked very young and I commented on that and she told

me that it was her 8th year on that unit!
