Guest guest
Good for you, Kim. Maybe if we all bombard Oprah with this kind of email, she'll do a show about something important rather than an hour with her new favorite designer...or the latest in celebrity love lives. Kim wrote:Hi everyone~ So, I was at work yesterday talking to a friend about my daughter, Maddie. Specifically, we were talking about her club feet and the treatment that Maddie was receiving. My co-worker, a fairly educated person, was quite shocked when I told her that club foeet was the most common birth defect in the U.S. After a few more mins of talking, she suggested that I e-mail the producers of Oprah, beacuase " that would get the word out... " So, I did! I know that many others have contacted Three Wishes and Dr. Phil, but could it hurt? What if she responds??? Here is a copy of what I sent to the Oprah Producers: *Dear Oprah Producers~ My daughter Madilyne was born with bi-lateral club feet on 06/16/2005. Prior to learning about her birth defect via ultrasound, I had never heard of club feet. Here is what I have learned over the past 4 months. 1- Club foot is the MOST common birth defect in the US. 2- There is a treatment developed by Dr. Ponseti (currently 91 years old) that is non-surgical. YET, so many docs across the country still continue to conduct PAINFUL surgeries un-necessarily. The man reason, some just do not know. More importantly, parents do not know any better. Properly followed, the Ponseti treatment has a 95% success rate. Because of the Internet, the popularity of the treatment has grown, almost like an under-ground network. As we speak, Dr. Ponseti is STILL seeing patients. He will not turn anyone away. Without proper treatment, club feet babies will never walk properly and suffer years of pain. Treated properly, these children lead perfectly normal lives. When she was born, Madilyne's big toes touched the sides of her legs. I am e-mailing you today in hopes that you could highlight the birth defect known as club feet. Thousands are affected across the country. Also, Dr. Ponseti is the strongest advocate for these babies. He sees babies for free, if families can not afford... he has set up a organization that send shoes and provides treatment to babies overseas (some of which would have NEVER received treatment). He has dedicated over 50 years of his life to our precious children, so that they can be pain free and walk just like all other children. I have more information that can be sent, if you so desire. We are still in the beginning of our treatment. I hope that you consider this a worthwhile topic, even if only for a few minutes on your show. I truly would make a difference in the lives of thousands of babies!!! Thank you, *

Guest guest
Faith, I so agree with you, we sent a letter a few mos ago and I was saying the exact same thing to one of my girlfriends!! It's too bad, if the Ponseti method had of exploded like it is now let say 10 years ago, she would have already done a show on it. I don't want to come across like I am bashing Opra, she has done some amazing shows and has been at this a looong time. And you never know, besides, it never hurts to try right?! & Grace Hi everyone~ So, I was at work yesterday talking to a friend about my > daughter, Maddie.
