Guest guest
e: Big time yes. We have one for Leah. I'll need to look up the information where I got it from. It is a walker with a girdle. It has three sides and one open side. Of course Leah doesn't like using hers and I'm sure it's because she has to work to get anywhere and not rely on an adult. I like it because Leah can't stand on her own, but this supports her in case her legs go out from under her. It costs around $550 for this walker. Insurance covered it for us. Will look it up for you. Nerenhausen mom to Leah e wrote: Does anyone know if they make walkers for children with a seat? I'm thinking of something similar to the fancy adult kind with the handbrakes and the seat with the basket underneath. I want one like that for Devin. It's either that, or he goes in a wheelchair to get around the grocery and other stores with us. He can make it most of the way through super walmart, but then by the time we have to do our one last stop at Aldi (small inexpensive grocery store), he's laying on the floor at the cash register. I suppose I could go later in my day and do Aldi first, then super walmart, and he could stay in the riding cart all the way to the van. That's a thought. I was just thinking that pushing him in the stroller and pushing a cart is getting difficult, (his autistic brother has to push either one, and it's mission impossible!) and he can still walk just fine, (thanks to the AFOs) but he can't go long in duration. What do you do for your children in such situations? Any ideas? And Darla, I'm just sick about that muscle biopsy being gone! I went to bed and prayed so hard last night that you would come up with an acceptable solution to this disaster! You are handling it very well though! e *Ü* Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions. Guest guest
Hi e, Well, my response is a little late, but...my daughter, Ellie, has a Crocodile walker and it has a seat. She keeps it up when she is walking, but can put it down to sit. She really likes it. Here is a website (http://www.adaptivemall.com/crgatr.html) that sells it. We also like it because it is yellow, black and red and not just silver. We jazz it up, so to say, with a basket and a cup holder for her. I've attached a picture of her using it on the dance floor at my brother's wedding in October! Guest guest
Thank you so much for your response Kris! I love the picture of Ellie! She's so cute! I had looked on adaptivemall.com before, and did see the crocodile walkers, but didn't realize they had a seat. I really like them, and what a great idea to put a basket and a cup holder on there! Devin would love that! I'll have to look further into this walker. Thanks again. e -- Re: Pediatric s Hi e, Well, my response is a little late, but...my daughter, Ellie, has a Crocodile walker and it has a seat. Guest guest
Hi Kris I am looking into buying the crocodile for my son. He is 5 years old. I too am ordering it from adaptive mall. I want to use it is a gait trainer. I want to take the handles off (so he can't hold onto anything) He walks/runs in a reverse kaye walker. I need to buy the lateral supports, pelvic pad and the pelvic strap to attach only around his waist. So he can get the balance down. He currently takes 7-10 steps by himself and cruises everywhere. Have you thought about that? Since you have the crocodile (i never seen it) do you think it would work? How is the crocodile outside? Did you buy the walker only or do you have any extras? Thanks for your knowledge! Angel mom to Isaac 5 years old mito I Pediatric s Does anyone know if they make walkers for children with a seat? Guest guest
My son has a crocodile and has had it for over a year. I think it would be very very difficult to walk in one without holding on. If you have the waist support on, you would just sort of drag the crocodile along with you and if you stopped, it would push you forward. Just my thoughts. Guest guest
Hi! I was planning on snugging it tight (not too tight were he can't breath) around his waist just like you would if you put his hands around his waist. If it rolls easy it shouldn't drag too much but my son has enough strength when he stops it shouldn't push him over. I am buying this with my own money and I wish I could try it out before i buy it. I figure it is worth the try it will cost me 650$ but then I figure if it doesn't work I can make it into the reverse walker and he has a new one! He has a silver reverse Kaye walker right now which he tips all the time outside so I am hoping this one will be better. And I like the feature you can drag the wheels so he doesn't go so fast. His therapist wants to put weights on his kaye one and I think it looks tacky. I hope it works and I wil keep you all posted I should get it in 3 weeks. Thanks for the input I appreciate it!!
