Dear Friends,

Only twenty-four hours after her surgery, Lilka was in good enough

shape to be discharged from Kaiser. I brought her home about an hour

ago. She is almost pain-free, except when she " coughs or burps " (her

words). She is sleeping, so please do not call. Oh, yes, she is " happy

to be alive… " During her ride home she told me she could see all of

your faces in her mind – all the people who love her… It was really

sweet the way she said it.
