Guest guest
pam, What you are discribing is what the side effects are-- you kind of feel like you've got a minor case of the flu for a day or two after taking the MTX. I just do simple foods and lots of fluids on those days. MTX and Remicade are meant to work together- and you have to have a second immunosupressant to make sure you don't build antibodies against the Remicade . Imuran, Arava, Enbrel, Humira are all options. It will probably take a combonation of meds that work for you. Plaquenil is also a good one for pulmonary sarc-- as well as helping with the body pain. I wasn't sure how much it was helping me, until I tried to eliminate it... As far as the mouth ulcer-- you may want to get some acidophyllus tablets to help make sure you don't get thrush. It's one of the simplist cures. (Please excuse my spelling-- that seems to becoming an issue...) Anyway, hope this helps-- oh, another choice for mouth health-- dry mouth, thrush, mouth sores-- is Biotine mouthwash, gum, toothpaste. It's wonderful and elimantates that dry mouth. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I have been on MTX for 4 years now, and still experience the same symptoms as when I started, my are lower GI, but I can handle them, and that’s about it! Good Luck! Marla From: Neurosarcoidosis [mailto:Neurosarcoidosis ] On Behalf Of pammarkpie Sent: Monday, January 07, 2008 4:02 AM To: Neurosarcoidosis Subject: Re: methotrexate dose... Thanks to all who responded! My doctor started me at 7.5mg (3 pills of 2.5mg) of MTX. She will increase it in 2 weeks, as long as labs are good. The increase will be by 3 pills for a total of 6 pills. She will do this again 2 weeks later for a total of 9 pills. If that doesn't help she will work on getting the insurance to pay for one of the newer drugs. I am taking the prescription folic acid. My next question is did any of you experience side effects on the initial dose? I am already developing a small ulcer under my tongue (I took my first dose of MTX on Friday and today (Monday) is the first day of any side effedts. I am also having some very mild nausea (it's not bad at all-was still able to eat and keep things down.). Thanks again, Pam
